The life of Liu Xibin’s Red Silk Inkstone Studio

Master Liu Xibin has been engaged in filigree inlay technology, mahogany carving, stone carving inlay, and mahogany furniture design since 1972. In 1977, he participated in the Sino-Japanese Inkstone Art Seminar held by Shandong Foreign Trade in Qingdao. In 1990, he entered the Chinese Calligraphy and Painting Correspondence University and conducted professional research and study on calligraphy. In 1978, he participated in the Shandong Provincial "Lu Inkstone Exhibition to Japan" sponsored by the Shandong Provincial Government and its preview in Tuancheng, Beijing. He was the main creator of red silk inkstones. The exhibition was a great success and received the honor of Vice Premier Gu Mu of the State Council. Among others, art masters such as Liu Haisu, Wu Zuoren and his wife, Zhao Puchu, Li Kuchan, Qi Gong, Liu Kaiqu, Huang Zhou, famous Japanese calligraphers, Mei Shuxu, Mao Cun, etc. all praised it and wrote inscriptions and poems happily. In 1984, he founded Caiyunxuan - Red Silk Inkstone Studio to engage in the design and creation of Lu inkstones and red silk inkstones. On October 2 of the same year, the red silk inkstone works were selected by the Ministry of Light Industry to be exhibited in Beijing and participated in the exhibition held in the southwest exhibition hall of Zhongshan Park. At the first "National Four Treasures of the Study Exhibition", the exhibits were sold out at high prices. This was also the first time that red silk inkstones were publicly displayed and sold in Beijing, and won unanimous praise from Chinese and foreign people. Mr. Qi Gong wrote: "People in the Tang Dynasty have long paid attention to Qingzhou stone, which was rarely seen in the world due to the destruction of Tianhai. Today, they still mention Lu inkstone and see red threads among the flowers."

In 1985, I was fortunate to meet Mr. Huang Zhou, a master of traditional Chinese painting. The red silk inkstone and Han brick "Yi Zi Sun Jade Bi Inkstone" works were appreciated by Mr. Huang Zhou and collected in the Yanhuang Art Museum, and he actively participated in The construction of Yanhuang Art Museum designs and produces a series of mahogany furniture for the art museum. In July 2001, President of the Japan Tourism Society, Director of the Japan-China Calligraphy and Inkstone Research Institute, President of the Seiichi Calligraphy Association, inkstone sculptor, calligrapher, Mr. Taoshi Yamamoto and the leader of the Japan Aogashi Calligraphy Association; Kamzo Mr. Kaji, inkstone sculptor and calligrapher Mr. Yoshida Eichin, Mr. Yoneyama Kiyotaka, and 11 other Japanese and Chinese inkstone art inspection groups, accompanied by the Chinese arts and crafts master Mr. Liu Ketang, came to visit Laiqucai Yunxuan, *** We also discussed the development and inheritance of Lu Yan culture, and organized field trips to Laoyagu, the origin of Linqu red silk stone, Xinzhai, the origin of turtle stone in Linqu County, and Laodongkou, Heishan, the origin of Qingzhou red silk stone.

The overall shape of his works is rigorous, simple, lush and earthy, full of interest. Following up on the originator of Lu Yan, with the purpose of maximizing the natural texture and color of red silk stone, on the basis of mastering the broad knowledge and profound traditional culture, he used his own unique way to conceive and design, and achieved "feeling and hair". Inkstone taste is like character. Master Liu Xibin strives for excellence in every work. His meticulous creative attitude makes the works full, vivid, rigorous and have noble cultural taste. The master who makes inkstones is a friend of the stone and makes inkstones with his heart. Each work is a tangible poem and a three-dimensional painting, which is evocative when played in the hand. The red silk inkstone has a profound cultural thought and is endowed with soul and life. He gradually established his own style on red silk inkstone works and won recognition and praise from the collecting community. Become the leader of contemporary red silk inkstones. Just as Mr. Zhao Puchu said in his praise: "In the past, the color brush used to be the inkstone, and the fine materials were colorful. Now the eyes are bright, and the red silk is used to protect the hair. The ink is moist, and the ink is oily. The Tao is to avoid the mat all the time, but also to destroy the skill. The hand is thinking carefully, the harmony between heaven and man is wonderful and difficult to understand, the knife is cutting the clouds and breaking the place, and the mind is looking forward to the full moon."

Each of the master’s works is unique, one inkstone equals the world, one stone equals an article, and is an unrepeatable solitary and exquisite piece of art collection, thus ensuring that it has extremely high added value and collection value. .

Master Liu Xibin is currently planning to create a series of works with the theme of Dream of Red Mansions, which are initially taking shape in several ways, such as "Qiao Jie" with red silk inkstone, "Xunmei with Baoqin", "Welcome to Spring and Play with Butterflies" and The inkstone screen "Snow Shadow Encounter" and other works, the use of natural textures and colors can be said to be just right. It is an extremely rare product. It is the culmination of decades of hard work by the master. We are eagerly looking forward to the early release of this historical masterpiece. in front of us.

The stones are colorful and the literature is gorgeous, like clouds, fog, and wind...
