To say that it is "the first in Kaiping" is not only the first in height, but also difficult to compare with other watchtowers in appearance. There are three pavilions at the top of the building, which highlights the unique style of western architecture. Among them, the Roman dome supported by load-bearing walls and the Byzantine dome supported by columns are the most obvious, giving people unusual aesthetic feeling. Each floor of the building from the first floor to the fifth floor has different leg columns, which increases the effect of the building facade. The shapes and compositions of window skirts, window lintels and window grilles on each floor are also different, which makes them flexible. The Roman-like arch ticket and unique four-corner support columns on the top of the five-story building are different from the common grass-rolling support feet of other watchtowers, and gradually transition naturally to the upper part, which has aesthetic visual effects. On the sixth floor, there is a colonnade composed of columns and arches in Onek style. The seventh floor is the platform, with domed kiosks at four corners. Baroque mountain flower patterns can be seen on the north and south sides. On the platform of the eighth floor, there is a western-style tower pavilion. The dome of the nine-story pavilion has a strong Roman style. The plaque of the name of the building is placed in the middle of the upper part of the seventh floor, with three vigorous and handsome characters "Ruishi Building" written on it. From the overall structure of the appearance, Ruishi Building is symmetrical, magnificent and dignified, and the French blue paint on the wall adds a bit of romance to it. Huang Bixiu, founder of Ruishi Building, was named Ruishi. He and his sons Huang Changlan (the eldest son) and Huang (the second son) successfully run pharmacies and money houses in Hong Kong. At the beginning of the 20th century, public security was not good, thieves were rampant and gangs were rampant. At that time, 59-year-old Huang Bixiu lived in his hometown with his parents and wife. For the safety of his family, he spared no expense to build a home watchtower in the Republic of China 10 (1923), which was completed in the Republic of China 12 (1925) for three years. After the building was completed, he named it Swiss Building after himself. Being the same age as the famous calligrapher in Guangdong and the master of Tiechan, who presided over Liu Rong Temple in Guangzhou, Tiechan wrote three characters "Ruishilou" for him. The calligraphy of Hunxiong, the master of Tiechan, has improved the popularity and cultural taste of the building. In order to prevent bandits, the building is equipped with guns, bronze bells and searchlights.
The designer of the building is Huang Zinan, the nephew of the landlord Huang Bixiu. Master Huang Dong of Enping County is in charge of carpentry. When the project was completed, it happened to be the 80th birthday of Huang Bixiu's father Yigui and his mother Situshi. All the villagers came to congratulate him. He held a "running water banquet" for five days in a row, and even passers-by guests could sit in the table. The celebration cost about 1 10,000 Hong Kong dollars, which shows the importance of nostalgia. Huang Bixiu's descendants once lived in the Swiss building, and later moved out one after another because they went abroad to make a living or work in the city. Mr. Huang, the son of Huang Changlan, is 80 years old and still in good health. Gigi Lai Village belongs to Tangkou Town, Kaiping City, located at12km east of Kaiping City. It consists of three natural villages: Anheli (commonly known as Ploughhead Mouth), and Anli (commonly known as Xincun) and Li Yongan (commonly known as Huangniling). In the seventeenth year of Qing Daoguang (1837), Litouzui was the first village. The living pattern of the village is in harmony with the surrounding natural environment, and the village layout is sporadic.
At the beginning of the village, there were only two houses in the village, surrounded by farmland. Later, more and more people bought farmland and some houses were built one after another. After the Opium War, people's lives were hard, and capitalist countries needed a lot of labor to develop production, so they came to China to recruit workers. Many people in Yi Kai left their hometown to make a living abroad, and self-reliant villagers began to live abroad during this period. In the future, there will be many travelers with one. After they earn money, they come back to buy land and real estate, then go abroad, and so on. In the 1920s, due to rampant banditry and frequent floods, some overseas Chinese and compatriots from Hong Kong and Macao took out part of their savings to build towers. These towers and houses are usually named after the founder or his will. There are 15 towers in the village. According to their age, they are Longsheng Building (19 17), Yangxian Villa (19 19), Qiuanju Road (1920) and Fantasy Cloud Building (192/kloc). Zhen 'an Mansion (1924), Shi Ming Mansion (1925), Anlu Mansion (1926), Yinong Mansion (1929), Ye Shengju Road (1930), Guan The most exquisite watchtower is the Shi Ming Tower. The building is six stories high, the first floor is a hall, the second to fourth floors are bedrooms, the fifth floor is a place for ancestor worship, there are colonnades and four-corner hanging towers, and there is a hexagonal observation pavilion in the center of the six-story platform. The furniture, living facilities, production tools and daily necessities in the building are complete.
The watchtower in Gigi Lai Village is beautifully built, well-preserved, with harmonious layout and patchwork. Surrounded by fertile fields and bursts of fragrant rice, it passes through field paths, trees and bamboos, and goes straight into the village, giving people a feeling of paradise.
