The story of Horse Head Guanyin

Since Avalokitesvara Bodhisattva has lived in the South China Sea for a long time, all industries in the South China Sea have prospered and the economy has prospered. People's business activities have increased day by day and they travel more frequently. A large amount of products need to be delivered to inland areas or South China Sea islands by sea or land. During the transportation, due to the bad weather, rugged roads, attacks by pirates and bandits, and the evil Rakshasa, people's ships were often sunk, their goods were sunk, their cars were destroyed, and people were killed. People lost their lives and property, and suffered terribly. The people really had no choice but to come to the Thirty-three Guanyin Hall in Nanshan to pray for Guanyin Bodhisattva to appear and bless them safely when they go out.

On this day, Master Hongde, the abbot of the Thirty-three Guanyin Hall in Nanshan, came to the seaside to take a rest under the coconut trees after giving a lecture. Suddenly, he saw a huge sea turtle washed up on the beach by the waves. Master Hongde felt compassion and wanted to help the sea turtle return to the sea. When he got closer, he found two lines of golden Buddha verses on the back of the turtle: Difficult to enter, difficult to exit, no fruit. , the predestined dharma respects and comforts the deity. After the Master read the Buddhist verse, he was puzzled.

At night, Master Hongde suddenly heard Sanskrit chanting in the sky above the temple: "Namo Horse-headed Avalokitesvara Bodhisattva bless all living beings, and bring good luck in times of trouble..." Master Hongde looked up and saw the red light in the night sky. A statue of Guanyin is transformed into a statue of Guanyin, with a green horse head on its head, a fearless and solemn face like a lion, and auspicious clouds behind it like thousands of galloping horses. Just listen to the Buddha's voice transmitted in the air, and tell Master Hongde to listen to the truth: In response to the compassionate wish of Avalokitesvara Bodhisattva, I now bless the South China Sea, bless the Buddha's Dharma, and help all sentient beings to travel safely. After hearing this, the master kept kowtowing and remembered the golden Buddha verse on the turtle's back. He realized that it was Guanyin Bodhisattva's enlightenment and invited Horse-headed Guanyin to protect the people of South China Sea. The Master said to the sky: Horse-headed Guanyin is compassionate and brings blessings to the people of Nanhai. We will worship the golden statue of Bodhisattva devoutly to benefit the people of Nanhai.

From then on, in order to fulfill his vow, Master Hongde traveled to the South China Sea to seek good karma, and built another palace in the Thirty-three Guanyin Hall in Nanshan to enshrine the golden statue of Horse-headed Guanyin. When the people of Nanhai, especially those businessmen who often went out, learned of this incident, they went to the Thirty-three Guanyin Hall in Nanshan to worship and make offerings to the Horse-headed Guanyin, praying for the safety of themselves and their families.

Since the blessing of the Horse-headed Guanyin, people in the South China Sea have been able to come and go smoothly, and there are no more bandits, pirates and demons and Rakshasas. It can be said that business is booming all over the world, and wealth is flourishing as far as Sanjiang. People all praise the efficacious power of Horse Head Guanyin. Since then, the incense of Nanshan Thirty-three Guanyin Hall has become more prosperous, and its reputation for kindness has spread far and wide.
