Yu's origin
Yu, one of the surnames of China, is a typical surname with the lineage of the Yellow Emperor, which spread from the Yellow River valley to the whole country. It is generally believed that Yu originated from Ji's surname. In the early years of the Western Zhou Dynasty, Zhi Shu, the son of Ji's surname in the Western Zhou Dynasty, was made a vassal state (Henan), and his descendants took Yu as their surname. During the Spring and Autumn Period and the Warring States Period, the descendants of Zhi Shu moved to Tancheng, Shandong Province. During the Wei, Jin, Southern and Northern Dynasties, Yu really went to the whole country. The important figures of Yu family in history are: Yu Dingguo, Prime Minister of Han Dynasty; Yu Ji, a Taoist priest in the late Eastern Han Dynasty; Yu Jin, one of the five good generals of Cao Wei in the Three Kingdoms period; Yu Zhining, Prime Minister of Tang Dynasty; Yu Qian, a statesman, strategist and poet in Ming Dynasty, and Yu Yu: Yu Chenglong, the first upright official in Qing Dynasty; Yu Youren, a calligrapher, politician and educator in the Republic of China; Yu Min, a nuclear physicist and China's "father of hydrogen bombs"; Yu Shizhi, the representative figure of China's plays, etc.
