Epitaph of Su Yang
The tombs of Su Yang's tomb were all made of bluestone, so they were still intact when they were excavated. It is said that each stone is 70 cm square with exquisite murals painted on both sides. Deep in the tomb is the tomb door, which is also made of bluestone. There are two different gods carved on it. The two gods not only have different postures, but also have different looks. On the door frame above the tomb door, four characters of God bless the people are engraved.
A stone tablet engraved with an epitaph and a pair of small stone lions were unearthed in front of the tomb. The tombstone is about 2 feet and 5 inches square, and the epitaph is 45 lines, with 34 words in each line. The inscription is in regular script. Unfortunately, the stone tablet has been damaged, and the epitaph with more than 1000 words on it can't be read completely. According to the inscription on the stone tablet, Su Yang's epitaph was written by Yu Shiqi, then a doctor and assistant minister of literature and history. He was a calligrapher and writer in the Sui Dynasty. Yu Shiqi's exquisite calligraphy and craftsmen's exquisite carving have created exquisite calligraphy carving on this stone tablet.
The epitaph mainly introduces Su Yang's life and praises his achievements. This broken tombstone was unearthed in 1973 and was found in the general survey of local historical relics in 1980. Now it is collected in Tongguan County Cultural Center.
Although Su Yang's tomb has been discovered and excavated for a long time, the excavation work was terminated because of the landslide in the process, so the most important tomb in the whole cemetery has not been excavated.
How did Su Yang die? In 606 AD, Su Yang was appointed as Stuart by Yang Di Yang Guang, and was renamed the King of Chu. But in the same year, he died of illness at the age of 62, known as Jason Wu. According to Sui Shu, one of the Twenty-four Histories, Su Yang's final death was closely related to Yang Guang.

Su Yang was the founding hero of the Sui Dynasty, Emperor Wendi and Emperor of the Sui Dynasty, and made great contributions to the establishment of the country. Later, the expedition to the north made great contributions to the Sui Dynasty. So, the official went to Shangshu, the left servant shot it, and the title was Yue Guogong. Yang Guang's succession is also closely related to Su Yang's support. Before Yang Guang became the Crown Prince, Yong Yang, the eldest son of Emperor Wendi of Sui Dynasty, was a prince, but he was later deposed. When Emperor Wendi was seriously ill, Yang Guang was almost deposed because of some things. Su Yang sent someone to guard the palace, and Emperor Wendi of Sui died that night. Outsiders don't know what happened during this period, but what is certain is that Yang Guang was made emperor by Su Yang. Later, Su Yang also helped Yang Guang to crusade against Yang Liang who opposed him.
In spite of this, Su Yang's position and prestige were feared by Yang Guang. Although he still respects Su Yang on the surface and often rewards him, he is actually cold to him. On one occasion, a historian said that the division of Sui would hold a grand funeral, because Chu and Sui belonged to the same division. So Yang Guang changed the title of Su Yang from King Yue to King Chu, actually hoping to let him eliminate the evil. It is said that after Su Yang fell ill, Yang Guang sent a doctor to treat him, and secretly always asked the doctor when he would die. This shows that Yang Guang hates Su Yang.
Su Yang, who has been an official for so many years, naturally knows this, and he has been in a position of no official and no seal for a long time. Therefore, when he was seriously ill, he was unwilling to take medicine. In fact, he thinks he has no need to live. Therefore, Su Yang died because Yang Guang forced him to die, and he begged himself to die.
