You don’t have to live in a Taoist temple. You can stay at Nanyan Qixingshu. There are many B&Bs where you can negotiate the price. They are not expensive. You can get a place for just a few dozen yuan. However, the food is a bit expensive. You can see the attractions in two days and only need to stay one night. I just visited a few days ago. The ideal itinerary is (if you arrive at the scenic spot around noon that day) you can start from Xiaoyao Valley, pass through Zixiao Palace, arrive at Nanyan, and stay overnight after visiting Nanyan Palace. The next day we hike from Nanyan to the Golden Summit. If we are tired, we take the ropeway down and take a bus directly to Prince Slope to visit the last attraction, and then go down the mountain. If you arrive late on the first day, you can start from Zixiao Palace, and then visit Prince Slope and Xiaoyao Valley on the second day. Hope this helps.
