The brushwork of seal script is as follows

The brushwork is simply the method of using a pen, which can also be called "using a pen" and "lifting a pen".

Some time ago, I saw Mr.' Zero Weng Liu Peiqi' explain the brushwork in a more subtle way, and I feel that I have gained something. I want to share it with you. Teacher Liu regards brushwork as a relatively fixed knowledge point, that is to say, brushwork is such a thing, while using a pen and using a pen is a personal knowledge point with personality. Learn the former from calligraphy, and learn the latter from post. The relationship between the two is both related and focused. The former is like basic science, and the latter is based on the new functions and products developed by the former.

Deng Zhuan Shu Zhou

This article is an introductory article of Xiao Zhuan, therefore, according to the above theory, it is also the skill knowledge of the former. The brushwork of Xiao Zhuan font is mainly summarized by the word "Zhong Bi". The so-called central stroke can be simply understood as: the pen tip points to draw and walk. It is characterized by hiding the head and protecting the tail, and the force is in it. The strokes written in the center are concise, powerful, round and beautiful, and learning the brushwork of seal script well is the key to writing seal script well.

10 Basic strokes of Xiao Zhuan

First, horizontal strokes

The main points of his brushwork are: reverse the Tibetan front to the first end, turn it to the right into a round front, turn it to the end, and then turn it back to the left.

As shown in the figure below:

Second, vertical strokes

The main points of his brushwork are: upside down, the pen tip turns vertically to the end, and when it reaches the end, it doesn't stop, so he gently picks up the pen and collects it.

As shown in the figure below:

Third, bend the strokes horizontally.

The main points of his brushwork are: write to the left against the front, then write to the right against the front, write down along the front, and gradually pick up the pen with the trend.

As shown in the figure below:

Fourth, straight bending strokes.

The main points of his brushwork are: write against the front, turn the front to the bottom, turn the pen to the right, write down slowly, and finally close the pen.

As shown in the figure below:

V. Arc stroke

The writing points of the upper arc stroke are the same as those of the horizontal and vertical strokes above, and the points needing attention in writing this stroke are as follows: 1. Keep a round posture; Second, keep the depth of the brush on the paper consistent and the pen speed consistent; Third, the two arcs are connected in the middle, leaving no trace, and pay attention to the left and right symmetry.

As shown in the figure:

Sixth, the next arc stroke

The writing points of the downward arc stroke are the same as those of the horizontal and vertical strokes above. The main points to pay attention to when writing this stroke are: first, you need to write the left arc, then the right arc; Second, when writing the right side, you need to pay attention to symmetry with the left side; Third, writing needs to be done in one go, so as not to affect Tao.

As shown in the figure below:

Seven, left and right outer arc strokes

The writing points of the left and right outer arc strokes are the same as the horizontal and vertical strokes above, and the points that should be paid attention to in writing this stroke are as follows: 1. The starting and ending of arc strokes on both sides should be consistent; Second, the speed of writing should not be too slow, and it needs to reflect the beauty of smoothness.

As shown in the figure below:

Eight, square arc strokes

The writing points of square arc strokes are the same as the horizontal and vertical strokes above. Points to pay attention to when writing this stroke are: 1. Whether it is a square arc or a rectangular arc, the strokes should be rotated in a circle; Second, the angle needs to become an arc, and the four corners correspond; Third, the pen leaves no trace.

As shown in the figure below:

Nine, arc arc strokes

Curved arc stroke is the most complicated in Xiao Zhuan, with many changes and great difficulties, but it needs to be written in one go. Therefore, it is necessary to pay attention to adjusting the nib or consider increasing the twisting technique, and cooperate with wrist internal rotation to make the nib rotate smoothly.

As shown in the figure below:

X. Overlapping strokes

Overlapping strokes is a very important skill in writing small seal script fonts, which can be perfectly stacked to make the written fonts appear comfortable and euphemistic. The main point of overlap is that it is not necessary to go back to the front of the previous stroke, and the latter stroke is convenient to insert. The overlap of two strokes only hides the overlap in the strokes.

As shown in the figure below:
