Introduction to the memorial hall of the former site of Jiangnan headquarters of the New Fourth Army

The former site of the Jiangnan headquarters of the New Fourth Army was originally the Li Ancestral Hall, which was built in the Ming Dynasty. The whole ancestral hall has three rooms, cloisters, carved windows, archways and beams. After reconstruction, it has restored its historical features. Five former sites, including the Field Corps of the Political Department, are all brick and wood houses. The museum covers an area of 6,000 square meters with a building area of 2,645 square meters. Bronze statues of Chen Yi, commander of Jiangnan Command, and Su Yu, deputy commander, stand in the hall of the memorial hall. The purple curtain is inlaid with the inscription of Li Yimang, former Secretary General of the New Fourth Army and member of the Central Advisory Committee: "Great South China, Contributing to the Nation". The whole exhibition hall, with photos, objects, charts, electronic models and other exhibits, reflects the fighting course of the Jiangnan troops of the New Fourth Army led by Chen Yi, Zhang Dingchen and Su Yu, who went deep into the enemy's rear in southern Jiangsu to create and develop the anti-Japanese base area in southern Jiangsu with Maoshan as the center. Chen Yi's office and Su Yu's bedroom are reserved on both sides of the exhibition hall. After the death of Comrade Su Yu, his wife and children followed Su Yu's wishes and scattered some of his ashes in the courtyard of the exhibition hall. On the left side of the memorial hall is the General Hall, which displays the life stories of 76 New Fourth Army generals who were awarded the rank of Major General or above, including Chen Yi, Su Yu and Ye Fei. On the first floor, the life stories of Marshal Chen Yi and General Su Yu and their more than 80 photos of Zhang Zhengui in various historical periods are displayed, which reproduces their glorious fighting life. On the second floor are biographies of four generals, eight lieutenant generals and 62 major generals. The exhibits include binoculars, pistols, briefcases, trophies and medals used by generals. Out of the "General Hall", past the hexagonal pavilion and down the steps, it is the "stele gallery". It is built near the pool with black tile cornices, small and exquisite, simple and elegant. The wall of the gallery is inlaid with inscriptions and calligraphy works by 52 veterans of the New Fourth Army. 20 13 May, approved by the State Council, announced as a national key cultural relics protection unit.
