Guizhou (referred to as "Qian" or "Gui" for short) is a provincial administrative region of People's Republic of China (PRC), with Guiyang as its capital, located in the Yunnan-Guizhou Plateau, southeast of southwest China, bordering Hunan in the east, Guangxi in the south, Yunnan in the west and Sichuan and Chongqing in the north.

Before the Spring and Autumn Period, the northeast of Guizhou belonged to Jingchu, and the rest areas were generally called Nanman. During the Warring States, Qin and Han Dynasties, Yelang Kingdom rose in the southwest of China, and Guizhou became the center of Yelang. In Song Dynasty, "Guizhou" first appeared in the literature as a place name. In the 11th year of Yongle in Ming Dynasty (A.D. 14 13), Guizhou was established as a province.
