The most important thing to distinguish Qi Baishi's calligraphy and painting is to look at the painting itself. The old man Baishi has profound artistic attainments, and his pen and ink have reached a superb level. He can skillfully draw the expression dynamics of flowers and birds, insects, birds and characters with extremely concise pen and ink. A counterfeiter can only create its "shape" but not its "god".
Therefore, the style and pen and ink of the whole painting are the key to distinguish authenticity. As long as you master the artistic language of the old man Baishi, you will reach the high realm of "people with eyes know the truth".
The inscription and seal of a painting is also an important part of distinguishing authenticity. From the inscription, we can see whether the lines are written in one go, whether the center is a pen and how imposing it is. A good man with experience and understanding of calligraphy can tell at a glance whether it is the style of the old man Baishi.
Whether the seal is copied or not can be compared with the printed spectrum. Although it is not easy to recognize a plate with photos, anyone who knows the seal can recognize that zinc seal and litho seal have different tastes on paper.
Old man Baishi hates forging his fake paintings. In order to "fake", he spent his whole life trying to figure out some strange tricks from time to time. It is also a way to identify the authenticity of the old man's strange tricks.
For example, when the old man Baishi was 87 years old, he quietly wrote the word "mouth" under the word "stone" into a circle until he was 92 years old. It was not until the counterfeiters found out that the word "mouth" was reduced to a square.
In terms of calligraphy, the old man Baishi fell in love with Jin Dongxin's lacquer books between his 40 s and 50 s, and his form and spirit were quite similar. Therefore, lacquer calligraphy is also our argument for identifying the calligraphy and books of the old man Baishi in recent years.
At the age of 75 (Ding Chou), the old man Baishi believed the fortune teller's words and tried to avoid bad luck. He has been 77 years old since he was two years old. For example, the 76-year-old handwriting in the signature is the negligence of the counterfeiter.
When Qi Baishi was 38 years old (1900), he built a new study "borrowing mountains to sing songs". At the age of 42, because Wang Xiangqi asked his students to write couplets, many students failed to cope with the humiliation of Baishi, so they removed the word "borrowing mountains to sing songs" and did not shake after painting it to 1904.
On the stamp, in order to prevent forgery, the old man carved a steel seal of Qi Baishi and put it on the painting. Later, when he found that someone had stolen the steel seal, he pressed it with his finger. (See Qi Baishi's steel seal at the lower left of the fan of Lotus Dragonfly, with the painter's handprint on the lotus leaf. )
Especially for the old people's favorite works that need to be treasured at home, the seal is first dipped in inkpad and covered on the painting, and then vermilion powder is sprinkled on the stamped seal, and the original seal is immediately bulging. This is what the four seals on the Chrysanthemum Map do. This trick of the old man has never spread abroad, and no forgery has been found so far.
