The first hexagram Qian hexagram analysis (Part 1)

Speaking hexagrams

The image of the hexagram "Qian" is "heaven", and the meaning of the hexagram Qian is "health". The Qian hexagram uses "Heaven's movement is strong" as a metaphor, telling people that only by carrying forward the spirit of continuous self-improvement and being vigorous and enterprising can they achieve success.

Explanation of Yi

Original text "Qian" (1): Yuan Heng. Li Zhen (2).

The translation of Qian Gua means that you will be prosperous and it will be beneficial to do things according to the right path.

Notes

(1) Qian: The hexagram name symbolizes heaven. Qian is a strong, vigorous and upward form.

(2) Yuanheng. Li Zhen: Yuanshi, prosperity, harmony and integrity.

The original text of the ninth day of the lunar month (1) is Qianlong, do not use (2).

Translation: A lurking dragon is waiting for an opportunity and is not suitable for displaying its talents.

Notes

(1) Ninth day of the lunar month: Each hexagram in "The Book of Changes" is composed of six lines, named from bottom to top as Chu, 2, 3, 4, 5, and Shang; "Zhouyi" uses "nine" to represent yang and "six" to represent yin. This line ranks first under the Qian hexagram and is Yang, so it is called "Chu Ninth Day".

(2) Qian: latent. Do not use: Do not use the ability.

The original text is 92, seeing a dragon in the field (1), and seeing an adult (2).

Translation: The dragon appears in the fields, and it is beneficial to see adults.

Notes

(1) See: same as "present", appear. A dragon appears in the fields.

(2) Adult: A person of high moral character.

Translation: A gentleman who strives for self-improvement during the day and reflects and is vigilant at night will avoid disasters.

Notes

(1) Gentleman: A person with high moral standards. Qiangan: strong and energetic.

(2) Vigilance: vigilance. If: auxiliary word, meaningless.

(3) Li: dangerous. Blame: fault.

Original text No. 94: Or leap into the abyss (1), no blame.

Translation 94: The dragon may jump or hide in the abyss, and there will be no disaster.

Comment (1) or: or. Leap: leap, jump. In the abyss: Hidden in the abyss.

Original text: On the ninth day of the twelfth lunar month, the flying dragon is in the sky, which is good for seeing adults (1).

Translation: The dragon is flying high in the sky, and it is beneficial to see such a big man.

Notes

(1) Lord Lee Jian: The word "Master Lee Jian" in this line has different synonyms with the word "Master Lee Jian" in line 92. Ninety-two means that the dragon who is still in the "in the field" stage will benefit from seeing other adults; ninety-five means that the dragon flies into the sky and becomes an adult himself, and it will be beneficial for others to see him. Lord: A person of high moral character and in a high position.

The original text is on the ninth page, and the dragon has regrets (1).

Translation If a dragon flies too high, it will regret it.

Notes (1) Kang: Extremely high. If a dragon flies too high, it will regret it.

The original text uses nine (1), which means it is auspicious (2) to see a group of dragons without a leader.

A group of dragons appear in the translation, and no one claims to be the leader, which is auspicious.

Notes

(1) In principle, in the divination of "Zhouyi", "nine" is used instead of "seven" in Yang Yao.

(2) Head: Leader. A group of dragons appeared, and no one claimed to be the leader.

Among the sixty-four hexagrams in the "Book of Changes", only the Qian and Kun hexagrams are special. After the sixth line, there are "Yong Jiu" and "Yong Liu" respectively, while the other hexagrams are not there. The Qian hexagram has six yang lines, which means everything is going well; the Kun hexagram has six yin lines, which means everything is not going well. The former can easily make people proud and slack, while the latter can easily make people depressed.

Those who pretended to write "Yi" specially added "Yongjiu" and "Yongliu" after the two hexagrams. Nine represents Yang Yao, which refers to powerful, beneficial and successful factors. Using nine means using nine's method, that is, how to take advantage of favorable conditions. Tell people that even under favorable conditions, they must continue to strive for self-improvement and be prepared for danger in times of peace.

The original text "彖" (1) says: Great is the Qianyuan Dynasty (2), when all things begin, and they unite the sky (3). The clouds are moving and the rain is flowing, and the goods are flowing (4).

The end of the Ming Dynasty (5), the six figures were formed (6), and they rode on six dragons to control the sky (7). The Qian Dao changes (8), each person's life is rectified (9), Taihe is preserved (10), and it is beneficial (11). The first common people (12), Xianning of all nations (13).

Translation The Yang Qi of Qianyuan is so great that all things rely on it to obtain the conditions for initial growth, and all things move according to the way of heaven. Clouds move in the sky, rain falls on the earth, and all things come into being. The sun rises and sets over and over again, forming six different time positions (that is, the six processes of the development of things from beginning to end: the first line is latent, the second line is seeing, the third line is vigilance, the fourth line is leaping, and the fifth line is flying , ending with the upper line), Qian Yang is like a "dragon" riding six different time periods, controlling the movement of all things. The changes in the way of heaven allow all things to obtain their true nature and be in a state of preserving their vitality, which is conducive to maintaining integrity. All things sprout and the world is peaceful.

Notes

The original text of "Xiang" (1) says: Heaven moves vigorously (2), and a gentleman strives to constantly strive for self-improvement (3). Do not use Qianlong, as Yang is down (4). Seeing a dragon in the field, Deshipu is also there (5). Do it all day long, repeat the Tao (6). Or leaping into the abyss, there is no fault in advancing (7). The flying dragon is in the sky, and the master has made it (8). A prosperous dragon has regrets, and its surplus cannot last long (9). With nine, heavenly virtue cannot be the first (10).

The translation of "Xiang Zhuan" says: The movement of heaven is vigorous and powerful, and a gentleman should strive for self-improvement like the way of heaven and never stop. Qianlong is not used for the time being, and the yang energy is not yet full and full (a metaphor for things in the beginning of development, although there is momentum for development, it is relatively weak, so one should be careful and not move lightly). The dragon appears in the field (a metaphor for the fledgling, the time has come), and gives kindness to everyone and everything, and has the opportunity to meet the adults (waiting for the adults to discover, the adults refer to people with power). A gentleman should always adhere to the "Tao", strive for self-improvement during the day, and reflect and be vigilant at night (a metaphor for diligent behavior and cautious words). The dragon may jump into the abyss or move forward, but there will be no disaster. If the dragon flies high into the sky, it will definitely be able to achieve something (a metaphor for a gentleman who has accumulated enough energy to seize opportunities and make great achievements). If the dragon flies too high, he will regret it, because when things reach their peak, they will decline (a metaphor for things that must turn upside down). Qian Gua is the supreme way of heaven. All things are in a state of non-dispute, humility and harmony according to their own nature, without disputes.

Notes

Note

In early 2020, by chance, I became a disciple of He Dong, the head of the Lion Roar Sect, and began to study "The Book of Changes". Now I will record the process, gains and insights of my study of "Zhouyi".

During the learning process, we should strictly follow the master's purpose of establishing the school: "Learning the Yi is to learn the Tao, fortune telling is to understand the Tao, and interpreting the hexagrams is to preach." It would be a great pleasure to be able to make friends with "Yi", and I hope to learn from "people of the same mind".
