Eagle training calligraphy

Li Yong was a famous calligrapher and writer in Tang Dynasty. He was famous for his outspoken style and profound inscriptions in the Tang Dynasty, and was admired by later poets such as Li Bai and Du Fu. In the "two kings" system, Li Yong's running script can best compete with his ancestors, whether it is a dragon like an elephant or a phoenix like an eagle, and it is very clear in the evaluation of later generations.

First, it was unique at that time to adopt the method of two kings for forty years.

Li Yong took the method of "two kings", probably his pen mainly came from Wang Xizhi, who emphasized the bone method and used the pen quickly and decisively, which was unstoppable; Physically, he joined Wang Xianzhi's bravery, his wrist was strong, and he always tried to be brave without being informal. So Liu Xizai said that he "wins in ups and downs, but loses in action", which is exactly what he meant.

As the saying goes, Li Houzhu's praise and criticism of Li Yong's calligraphy is "superior to the general, inferior to the body", and Mi Fei also said that "his actions are strong and his manners are unfamiliar", which is true. Of course, "books are based on qi" can gain momentum. Li Yong entered the monument with a running script. In calligraphy or in the consciousness of Li Shimin, "don't learn from it, just seek its strength." The consciousness of "strength is vested and the situation is self-generated" comes down in one continuous line. So Mr. Qi Gong said:

The inscription on the cover is noble and solemn, but the lines are different. On the other hand, Li Shu used the pen of constant reflection to write down the spring notes of Mountain Safety. On the side, there is a strict degree. Dan's writing style opened the world.

The extension of Li Yong's Bong Bie Tie can be found in Song Tuo's Tan Tie.

Li Yong's calligraphy was widely praised in his time. Du Fu's Eight Poems of Mourning for the Secretary in Jiangxia is "romantic and scattered stones, chasing the top of the mountain", "dry door, monument to four generations", resulting in "forty years of independence". Lu Zangyong, a poet, also said that he was like a "hard-trained general and Mo Xie, striving for the front" and was in the limelight for a while.

Second, many calligraphers of past dynasties were influenced by him.

In the early Song Dynasty, people respected the two kings, but paid little attention to Li Yong's calligraphy. Until Ouyang Xiu began to pay attention to Li Yong's calligraphy. He said: It's nothing good to see Li Yong's calligraphy for the first time, but since Li Yong's calligraphy is so famous, there must be a reason. After a long time, I realized that there was a big gap between others and his calligraphy. Although I finally fell in love with his calligraphy, I like it best. Just like making friends, it is difficult to make friends at first, which may be the strongest friendship.

Li Yong's Long Separation (Song Tuo)

Influenced by Ouyang Xiu, Su Shi also studied Li Beihai's calligraphy. Although it is "more vigorous than that year", it is "more attractive than Xu Huiji when she was young", so she changed Li Yong's calligraphy, "omitting a corner and becoming mature", which gained both gains and losses.

Mi Fei learns from Li Yong, just like Li Yong learns from two kings. He is good at learning, and his most conceited word "brush" comes from Li Yong. Mi Fei thought that although Li Yong's calligraphy originated in Wang Xianzhi, it was "vigorous, unfamiliar" and "lacking in fiber", so he cracked this disease. However, Li Yong's calligraphy is as steady as an elephant. Miffy, on the other hand, jumps forward and has a long and narrow body. Although "slim", he "deliberately lowered his head and walked into a clever road".

Ye Zhao is a person who studies Li Yong. It is said that every time he writes big characters, he tries to imitate Li Yong, but his expression is totally untrue. Zhang Zongxiang, Qi Baishi, Lin Sanzhi, Qi Gong, etc. He attached great importance to Li Yong's books, but in the contemporary era, he emphasized the publicity of personality, as if he lacked harmony in law and lost his skill.

Three inspirations from Li Yong to contemporary calligraphy.

Li Yong's calligraphy is noble and elegant, which can be called a fairy hand in the book. He has three inspirations for contemporary calligraphy:

First, its unique spirit of "learning from me is vulgar, and learning from me is dead". Xuan He Shu said that Li Yong's "beginner's right general's method has its own merits, but in order to get rid of old habits and improve his brushwork". Qi Baishi said, "If you learn from me, you will live as if I were dead." It is a new interpretation of Li Yong's spirit.

Second, Li Yong's calligraphy emphasizes the use of pens to strengthen bones and muscles, which is beneficial to the cultivation of calligraphy. Li Yong, with his unyielding integrity and strength, showed the integrity and spiritual outlook of the running script inscription, which is the best interpretation of the style of the prosperous Tang Dynasty. However, contemporary calligraphy is "overnourished", and its external strength is weak, so it loses its "bone method" when using a pen. Learning Li Yong's calligraphy is a powerful medicine.

Third, Li Yong's calligraphy is straightforward, and he tries his best with his pen. Liu Xizai said, "I dare not draw an empty meaning." Strengthening writing is undoubtedly more practical for contemporary calligraphy, which is deeply influenced by the atmosphere of stele study and emphasizes production and modeling.

Four. conclusion

Of course, Li Yong's calligraphy is perfectly integrated with his inspiring and secular noble character. Du Fu praised his unyielding ambition, saying that "his face is folded in two directions" (Zhang Yizhi brothers), "customs are declining, and wind and water are flourishing", and lamented that "if the ancients don't see, who will succeed their predecessors".

There are still many remains in Li Yong's books today, such as Lushan Temple Monument and Tolin Temple Monument. However, due to the ruins, the monument of General Yunhui has always been the first, thin and hard, with bones all over the sky.
