In recent years, great progress has been made in the study of calligraphy, and great breakthroughs have been made in the understanding of the development of brushwork. Among them, Sha Menghai's "A Preliminary Study of Ancient Calligraphy" (note 1) and Wang Yuchi's "Talking about Wei Bei from Gaochang Bricks" (note 2) are representative works. If we compare and study them, the mystery of Wei Bei's brushwork will suddenly become clear.
In the article "A Preliminary Study of Ancient Calligraphy", Mr. Sha Menghai thinks that from ancient times to modern times, writing and writing methods are different, mainly changing with different furniture. According to the custom of Jin Dynasty, he sat on the floor, and according to the posture of characters in many ancient paintings, he came to the conclusion that calligraphy was oblique before Tang Dynasty. It's a pity that he didn't use this scientific conclusion to analyze Wei Bei's brushwork, but in Monuments and Posts.

(Note 3) The first five lines of "Painting his wife's tomb table" in Gaochang Brick Collection have been engraved, and the last three lines only write Dan, but not engraved. According to the inconsistency of lettering, Mr. Sha thinks that the looming of the North Monument is actually caused by the letterman. However, Teacher Sha neglected that the northern calligraphers had this kind of fixed knife technique because they had carved Wei Bei's book for a long time. Due to the formation of the customary knife method,
There are a large number of typical ink marks written by the North Monument in the collection, which were written at the same time when the North Monument rose in the Central Plains. Therefore, he thinks that the writing brush can write words from different angles in Weibei. Although there is a phenomenon that words are changed into squares with knives, it is not the main factor. He thinks that Wei Bei's square strokes may have been written by the ancients in a now lost brushwork, and speculates on this lost brushwork.
Although Mr. Sha Menghai came to the scientific conclusion that Tang's brushwork was crooked, he did not use this conclusion to understand Wei Bei's brushwork, and was unfortunately confused by the factors of knife carving. Although Mr. Wang Yuchi realized that Weibei's quick strokes may have been written by "restraining the edge of the pipe", knife carving was not the main factor, and he regretted leaving this understanding in the speculation stage.
