At the age of fifteen, Wang Zhihong took part in the calligraphy competition for primary and middle school students in Beijing and won the Excellence Award. Zhang Boju, a famous Mongolian calligrapher, gave him an award and was greatly encouraged. Zhang Boju's elegant temperament left a deep impression on him.

In the early 1990s, Wang Zhihong met Jiang Weiguo and Lu Taiyu. They appreciate Mr. Wang's calligraphy and collect his calligraphy works. At the same time, the Japanese Nakajima Second Division (also known as the Four Friends of Nakajima, who attached great importance to the tradition of calligraphy) came to China for an exhibition, and the calligraphy he saw was greatly appreciated. He said to his disciples, "Mr. Nakajima's calligraphy can be learned as a copybook."
In 1980s and 1990s, Wang Zhihong was often invited to give calligraphy lectures in Tsinghua University, university of international business and economics, Beijing Medical College and China Medical University, which was very popular among students.
After retiring from Beijing Peking Opera Theatre, Wang Zhihong devoted himself to studying at home, deepening his cultivation, improving his calligraphy and thinking about the present situation of calligraphy art.
In February 2007, Wang Zhiyi was elected as Deputy Secretary-General of Tai Ji Chuan Research Association of Beijing Wushu Association.
In June 2007, Wang Zhihong was hired by Beijing Municipal People's Government as a librarian of Beijing Literature and History Research Institute.
From Sun Rongbin to Shen and Qi Gong, a group of famous calligraphers, either by example or by their own unique artistic character, and his diligent study of ancient calligraphy posts, have been coming to the clinic for decades. At the same time, he also dabbled in literature and history, opera and martial arts.
