What are his advantages? On one occasion, the ancients commented that Zheng Banqiao said that Zheng Banqiao was "supercilious", which was such a person. But some people mentioned Zheng Banqiao, saying that he was a very modest man. What did they say? I also gave this passage to Mr. Fan Ceng, which I think is very appropriate. In other words, Zheng Banqiao said, "People are praised for their beauty and skill." Said Zheng Banqiao this person, the people he met, there is a beauty, this sentence is very good, or very capable, are amazing. Tut-tut means smacking. That's great.
Is particularly visible to people's advantages, Fan Ceng also has this advantage. When he meets people, he has a beauty of words. For example, someone wrote some poems and ten poems, none of which were good, but one was good. Fan Ceng repeatedly said that this sentence was well written, and this sentence was well written.
Moreover, I recently got a compliment from him, that is, on his seventieth birthday, I wrote him a congratulatory couplet, which is based on Confucius' words, that is, people reach seventy years old, that is to say, "do what they want from their hearts". I take this sentence as a couplet, "do what they want from their hearts". But at that time, I wrote it in regular script, "Do whatever you want." . That is, do whatever you want and don't overstep the rules. They all obey the rules.
Then, I gave it a bottom line, and the bottom line was "back to basics." I mean, we do things according to our own wishes, and we have to go back to the basics, which means we have no worries, no worries, no worries. The one mentioned in the Heart Sutra. If there are no obstacles in your mind, there is no fear, that is to say, there must be no obstacles in your heart. What about Fan Ceng? I think when he is old, he will have this spirit of going back to the past. "From the beginning to the truth", at this time, we really understand the true meaning of art and life. That's what I'm saying.
So Fan Ceng didn't say how much I praised him, but Fan Ceng did. After reading Tian's couplets, I used the phrase "return to nature". I am ecstatic, this is my goal. His exact words were "I am ecstatic". In other words, when he thinks your couplets are well matched, he praises you in front of many people. But for me, it's not that I'm complacent, but that I think Fan Ceng is too famous. He never hides his advantages, and he pays tribute to others publicly. We still admire his academic spirit at this point. So, in my preface, I criticized him and he was right. From this point, let's take a look at this passage. I think it's hard for ordinary people to do it.
The average person in the sequence wants you to flatter and go too far, but the tone of your criticism is often unacceptable, and Fan Ceng has this magnanimity. This is what I said,
"People talk about Fan Ceng, painting don't let the sages, poetry is innocent, calligraphy is elegant, doubt is the weakness of the three unique skills. Or eleven wings feel the same way, but after the year of destiny, they come to attack calligraphy again. "
This is my requirement for Fan Ceng's calligraphy. In fact, this is a critical tone, indicating that your calligraphy is poor in three aspects: poetry and calligraphy. But in this case, Fan Ceng agreed to publish it, which I think is very rare.
Of course, someone asked me what this "poem is worth it now" is. I mean this sentence, Fan Ceng's poem has two meanings, this sentence. One is that contemporary poetry is at a relatively low peak, which is a downward trend. Fan Ceng is also good at poetry, which is worthy of the present and should be good and high-level in the contemporary era. This is one aspect.
On the other hand, Fan Ceng's great-grandfather was a great poet. Who is it? Fan Bozi's calligraphy is contemporary. He is Fan Ceng's great-grandfather. These are the two words, contemporary. Therefore, I said, "Poetry matches the present, you match Fan's great-grandson, and your family is the origin of family precepts, so I made a pun on his words in this respect.".

On the other hand, Mr. Fan is very modest. He is deeply aware that his calligraphy is a weakness. At the age of 60, he began to attack calligraphy for the second time. During his six months in France, he held Ou Yangxun's calligraphy posts and Mifei's calligraphy posts every day, becoming more and more proficient every day. In recent years, he has studied calligraphy every day and made great efforts in calligraphy. As we all know, Fan Ceng is an extremely intelligent person with a very good talent and a good education. After he made great efforts in calligraphy, he achieved immediate results and achieved good results.
Let's take a look at Fan Ceng's early writing, that is, Fan Ceng's early writing. This word, I feel there are some redundant twists and turns, some redundant protrusions. There are always a few mistakes in writing. We saw Fan Ceng in the previous handwriting, and felt that some places were deliberately showing off and showing off. Or he doesn't have a rich background in the original post, so he can see these problems. These are his early words.
However, it is not easy to write like this as a painter, and it is also very bookish. It should be said that it is also very good. But compared with his poems and paintings, it should be said that there is a big gap. But when Fan Ceng felt this, he also knew that other people's criticism of him was well-intentioned or doubted his calligraphy. Therefore, Fan Ceng is a very progressive person, so if we look at his calligraphy now, we will make great progress.
