First stippling, then structure, then composition. Calligraphy is the art of lines, that is, the art based on basic stippling. If the basic stippling is not good, the artistry of the whole word or article is out of the question.
Because the pen tip is hard, the change of lines is much simpler, so the study of pen calligraphy takes more time in structure and less time in using pen and stippling. But that doesn't mean it's not important to draw with a pen. Instead, it is the basic skill of pen calligraphy. Only after the basic skills of stippling writing are solid can we grasp the structure. With a certain foundation in structure, the composition of the whole word is easy to master.
