Yulin was the land of Jin in the Spring and Autumn Period, Wei and Qin in the Warring States Period after the unification of the six countries. In the Eastern Jin Dynasty, Helian Bobo, the Xiongnu, established the capital of Tongyuancheng in the west of Yulin, with the title of Daxia. During the Tang and Five Dynasties, there were no Zhou Xia, Yinzhou, Linzhou, Fuzhou and Suizhou, all of which were under the jurisdiction of the inner channel. During the Song Dynasty, Yulin was occupied by the Northern Song Dynasty, Xixia and Jin State for many times. Yulin Wei was set up in Ming Dynasty, and it is one of Jiubian towns. Yulin House was established in Qing Dynasty, and Yulin Road was established in Republic of China. After the founding of New China, Yulin was a regional organization with a Commissioner's Office and an administrative office. In July 2000, it was changed to a prefecture-level city. Historically, Fu Su and Meng Tian in the Qin Dynasty, Li Guang in the Han Dynasty, Wei Chijingde and Guo Ziyi in the Tang Dynasty, Fan Zhongyan, Yang Jiajiang, Zhejiang in the Song Dynasty, Yu Zijun in the Ming Dynasty, etc. all stood guard here.
