Where is the Proverbs College?

Proverbs College is located at the foot of Hua Yao Mountain in Yiyang, Hunan. Xianfeng (1853) in Qing dynasty was founded by Hu Linyi, the governor of Hubei province. Hu Linyi was the leader of the Xiang army at that time, the governor of Hubei, and the famous minister of ZTE in the Qing Dynasty. He is an honest official and attaches great importance to the cultivation of talents. He believes that "if you want to avoid chaos in the world, you must start with academic training", so you have the heart to run a school.

In order to choose the school site, according to historical records, Hu Linyi not only personally visited Yiyang famous mountain Biyun Peak (called "Little Lushan Mountain"), Taojiang and other places, but also sent Xia Xianfan, who is proficient in witchcraft, to visit various places. Xia Fuming said, "There are stalagmites in the fifteen miles, and there are rich knot-printed caves with a long history. Jieyang Cave can give birth to a forest of words." Lin Bu then decided: "Yin point can bury my father, and Yang point can be an academy." In this way, Proverbs Academy is located at the foot of stalagmites and Hua Yao.

Because his father Dayuan once wrote Disciples Rules, it was named "Proverbs". The foundation stone of the Academy was officially laid in the third year of Xianfeng (1853), and the words "built in the third year of Xianfeng" were written on the main beam. When the Academy was first built, Hu Linyi was working as a Taoist priest in Guidong Road, Guizhou, and was appointed as the governor during the construction process. Therefore, the affairs of the Academy are presided over by his wife Tao Jingjuan and Chen Hanyuan (Han Yuan is a direct relative of Hu Linyi, and the Academy is presided over by Han Yuan when Jingjuan is not in Yiyang), and Cai Yongxi and Zhou are directly responsible for the construction.

After the academy began to take shape, Zeng Guofan and Zuo wrote Proverbs Academy and Postscript of Proverbs Academy in Hu Linyi. Hu, Zeng and Zuo all carved stones into the park. The source of funds for the establishment of Proverbs College: mainly the salary in Hu Linyi; Second, the field rental income of Hu family; Third, the income from studying in Proverbs College; Fourth, donations from friends before and after Hu's death (when Hu died, the Academy was not fully built). Friends who donated money to the Academy successively included Zeng Guofan, Guan Wen, Li Xuyi, Zuo, Yang Zaifu, Duo Longa, Bao Chao, Jin, Yu Jichang, Wang Shiduo, Wen Xifan, Jiang, Li Hongzhang and others.

Unfortunately, his work died before it was finished (186 1), but it was not finished until the second year of Tongzhi (1863). There are doors, pantheon (dedicated to Confucius), public war shrine (dedicated to Dayuan), lobby, book hug, semi-study, ambition, morality and benevolence. , and ***4 has 96 rooms, as well as a shooting nursery and a word tower, which can accommodate 120 students. Collection of books in the valley 1355 volumes (more than 3 1738 volumes), with 2225 stones.

The rules and regulations of the academy were formulated by Hu before his death, including the management of teaching and administrative affairs, such as the principal, the inspector, the first thing, the inspector and the secretary. Shanshou is "not recommended by the government", but is "decided by the prison and the person in charge", and is hired as "a person with good conduct, who is well-versed in Chinese and Western learning, and whose reputation is impeccable". Once a year, "the person who is judged by the public" can be re-elected; Prison "must choose good taste, can reconcile public opinion without partiality to the party, know the times without stubbornness, and have irregular days to achieve long-term and temporary success"; In charge, the first thing, secretary, etc. They are all "lazy, public and private for a long time."

About three years after Hu's death, the college officially began enrolling students, with the number of 1864. According to Hu Linyi's will, the Academy and Xuetian have all been donated to Yiyang County and managed by the county. The academy mainly recruits about 200 children from this city every year, and there were also scholars attached at that time. The focus of teaching is mainly Confucian classics. Hu Linyi also attached importance to the cultivation of students' ability, opposed learning to read dead books and stereotyped writing, and advocated reading "useful learning". Hu's children must pass the examination before they can be admitted to the hospital. Those who are proficient in the history of 13 or 13, or those who are proficient in arithmetic, geography, water conservancy, primary school, canon system and anecdotes, can be included in the regular class without examination; 3 classes a month, 2 essays, 1 epic; There are four points in the study of Chinese, Song, economy and Ci. Students can choose what they like to study, but they must practice it in order to "research is not trivial, meaning is not too empty, the world is useful, and arguments are rich and rootless"; In order to learn the order, Han, Song, Jing and Ci are different. You can read Shuo Wen, Li San, Jin Shilu, Da Xue, Tong Jian, Three Links, Yuefu, Historical Records, Hanshu and Wenxuan respectively, and "after you get used to it". "The method of reading, first teach persistence, and then teach mastery." Tongzhi for four years (1855), Wang Longwen was hired to give lectures, and the course of Proverbs Academy was set up, which was divided into four courses: studying history, establishing a career, managing directors and writing for the people. His successors include Zhuang Shouqi, the most famous ambassador of Hanlin Hubei, and Huang Ziyuan, the second-ranked calligrapher.

19 1 1 year changed to Xianyan school. 1March, 924, the school was closed because of bandits attacking Xuefeng Mountain, and the books were transported to Duoxian Temple for preservation by descendants of Hu. During the Anti-Japanese War, private Yucai Middle School in Changsha moved in. Yiyang No.1 Middle School moved here from 65438 to 0954. There are 50 academies in 6 buildings, covering an area of 1 1,000 square meters.

Walking into the Old Proverbs Academy, which is now the school gate of County No.1 Middle School, you can have a panoramic view of the complete and rigorous residential courtyard pattern of Proverbs Academy. Due to the expansion of the school, most of the old study rooms have been demolished, and the original gate of the academy has disappeared, leaving only a few study rooms and some upturned wind and fire walls. Look at the brick walls in Xianfeng years and touch the wooden windows in Tongzhi years. It is estimated that the moss in the well that day may be an old thing left over from 140 years ago. Think about the time when scholars sat under this wooden window, reading historical classics, attacking the skills of the world, and dreaming of fame and wealth. However, Hu Linyi said in his will: "Children and grandchildren don't have to learn stereotyped writing and don't want to be an official. Those who seek officials will benefit the people. Instead of harming the people with officials, it is better to be a farmer and a scholar without losing the vitality of our ancestors. " Hu Linyi also said in "With Followers": "Officials are suffering. If you don't work hard, you can't save the place If you work hard, you will be exhausted and speechless. " For thousands of years, China literati have been looking for a perfect home. Is learning written martial arts a good thing for the royal family, or is it a kind of self-realization-and epiphany?

Love is always blown away by wind and rain. With Hu Linyi gone, the people who belong to him have become empty. However, Proverbs Academy still stands at the foot of Hua Yao Mountain, and the Xi Zhi River flows quietly, silently watching future generations.
