What fun places are there in Xiangtan? What are the must-see attractions?

Dongtai Mountain National Forest Park, Mao Zedong’s Former Residence, Xiangxiang Dongshan Academy, Dishui Cave, and Xiangtan Agricultural Expo Park are all must-see attractions.

1. Mao Zedong’s former residence

It is located in the land of Shaoshan Village, Shaoshan Township, Shaoshan City, Xiangtan City. The former residence faces south and faces north. It has a civil structure and a "concave" shape, covering an area of ??566.39 square meters and a construction area of ??472.92 square meters. There are 18 houses. The 13 small blue-tiled houses in the east belong to Mao Zedong's family. The 4 thatched houses in the west are the public property of Mao's surname. The main hall (tiled house) in the middle is used as the main building.

There is a small ping in front of the upper house. There are two connected ponds in front of the ping. The small pond is full of lotus roots, and the water surface of the big pond is wider. The back of the house leans against the green hills, with luxuriant pines and bamboos; to the east of the house there are vegetable fields, rice fields, fish ponds and sunbathing flats; not far from the northwest of the house is the former site of the private school where Mao Zedong studied in his boyhood (South Bank).

2. Dongshan Academy in Xiangxiang

The four characters "Dongshan Academy" on the front door of the academy were written by Huang Ziyuan, a great calligrapher and second-ranked calligrapher in the Qing Dynasty. The academy building has typical Huxiang academy cultural characteristics, and its layout reflects the Confucian thought of "rituals and music complement each other".

The spatial combination of central axis symmetry, multiple courtyards, front and back series, and deep layers gives people a deep and tranquil feeling. There is no need to be gorgeous in decoration, with blue bricks and tiles, no piled-up decorations and false momentum, showing a dignified, simple, quiet and elegant character.

There are three core parts of Dishuidong Scenic Area: the villa series centered on Building No. 1; the Huxieping landscape series centered on Mao Zedong’s ancestral grave, Tiger Sculpture, Tiger Pavilion, and Dishui Qingyin to the west; Facing the Longtou Mountain landscape series are mainly the tombs of Mao Zedong's great-grandparents, Longquan Sandiao, Benlongquan Pool, and Guanyin Overlook.
