Among the inscriptions on the Longmen Grottoes’ statues, the most famous one is Longmen Twenty.
The Longmen Twenty refers to the twenty-square statue inscriptions selected from the Longmen Grottoes during the Northern Wei Dynasty. The title was first Since the Qing Dynasty. Nineteen of them are in Guyang Cave, and only one is in Cave 660 (Cixiang Kiln) outside Laolong Cave.
Most of the meritorious persons in these statues are princes, nobles, senior officials and eminent monks of the Northern Wei Dynasty. They sang praises to Emperor Xiaowen or built niches and statues to pray for blessings and ward off disasters. Most of their names are recorded in history books. These statue records often involve historical facts from that year. Therefore, the Longmen Twenty Pieces are not only the essence of the calligraphy art of the Northern Wei Dynasty and the representative work of Wei stele calligraphy, but also historical materials with research value.
About 13 kilometers south of Luoyang, Henan, you will arrive at the Longmen Grottoes, one of the famous "four major Buddhist caves". Here, two mountains stand between each other, like a gate. The Yishui River flows forever. On one side is the Xiangshan Mountain where the great poet Bai Juyi of the Tang Dynasty was buried; on the other side is the Longmen Mountain. On Longmen Mountain, there are Buddhist caves of various sizes excavated from the Northern Wei Dynasty to the Northern Song Dynasty. There are 1,352 Buddhist caves still in existence today, with 2,345 Buddhist niches and more than 100,000 statues. Zun is the treasure house of Chinese sculpture art.
"The Record of the Statue of Niu Zhu", the full name is "The Record of the Statue of Maitreya Built by King Qiu Mulingliang and Mrs. Yuchi of Changle King Qiu Mulingliang in November of the 19th Year of Taihe" for the Death of Niu Zhu. One of the ten items. It was built by Yuchi (later changed her surname to "Wei"), wife of King Qiu Mulingliang of Changle, for her deceased son Niuzhu. In the past, it was called Niuzhu niche. There is a lotus carved in the middle of the statue base, and two strong men on the left and right raise their hands in a lifting gesture, which is a vivid and lifelike image.
