Shu Tong (1905-1998) was named Wenzao, also known as Yi Lu, Han nationality, born in 1905, from Dongxiang, Jiangxi.
He gained local reputation at the age of fourteen. In 1921, he was admitted to Jiangxi Fuzhou Provincial Normal School. In 1926, he was appointed as Secretary of the Dongxiang County Party Committee of the Communist Party of China. In 1930, he transferred to the Red Army and participated in the first to fifth counter-campaigns of the Central Soviet Area and the world-famous Twenty-Five Thousand Miles Campaign. Chang Jiang, served successively as director of the division's political department and minister of the army's propaganda department.
During the Anti-Japanese War, he served successively as Secretary-General of the Eighth Route Army Headquarters and Director of the Political Department of the Shanxi-Chahar-Hebei Military Region.
During the War of Liberation, he served successively as Director of the Political Department and Minister of Social Affairs of the East China Military Region, and member of the Standing Committee of the East China Bureau of the Communist Party of China. After 1949, he successively served as First Secretary of the Shandong Provincial Committee of the Communist Party of China and First Political Commissar of the Jinan Military Region, Shaanxi Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Vice President of the Academy of Military Sciences, etc.
