Origin of the city name: Legend 1: In the year of Tang Tianbao 14 (AD 755), Xuanzong and Guifei were washing fat and solidifying fat in Huaqingchi Hot Spring when Fan Yang made An Lushan rise up and rebel. The rebels invaded Shaanxi and pushed Chang 'an. Li Longji, Emperor Xuanzong of the Tang Dynasty, fled with the imperial concubine Yang Yuhuan and stopped the mutiny at Mawei Poyi. Emperor Xuanzong of the Tang Dynasty was forced to kill Yang and hang Yang Guifei, so that the soldiers could live. Then the soldiers were divided into two ways, one led by Prince Hengli to fight against the rebels in Lingwu; Part of Xuanzong's guards fled west along the south bank of Weihe River, preparing to take refuge in Shu by Chencang Ancient Road. It is said that Xuanzong and his party fled to Chencang, but Guanzhong soldiers did not want to enter Sichuan and sneaked away. At this time, the rebels rear-ended and pressed hard. Xuanzong was desperate and took only a few Qin Bing into the mountains. They climbed a mountain and saw a rapids. Xuanzong looked up and saw that the rocks on all sides were steep, like ghosts and beasts, with jagged teeth and vertical and horizontal arches, and there was no way to do it. At this time, the dust was flying outside the mountain, and the rebel horses screamed. Xuanzong threw himself on the ground again and cried loudly: "Life is gone!" At the critical moment, two pheasants suddenly flew in, hovering over Xuanzong's head and cooing. They are very beautiful, with red mouths, Henaan and long tails. After circling, the money flies south. Everyone looked in the direction where the pheasant was flying, and the mountain road was winding and looming. Xuanzong was overjoyed. Order people to follow the pheasant. The pheasant flew and stopped, stopped and flew, leading Xuanzong and his party to the top of Chencang Mountain and rest in the temple. The rebels chased the mountain and searched everywhere, but they couldn't find the way up the mountain. They stood at the foot of the mountain waving flags and shouting. Suddenly, dark clouds were gathering, the north wind was tight, and the hail as big as walnuts kept falling, causing the rebels to flee and retreat. Strange to say, there was a thunderstorm at the foot of the mountain, but the sky was clear in Wan Li and Wan Li on the mountain. Looking back at the scene, it turned out to be a false alarm. They went to look for the two pheasants, who had turned into stone chickens and stood there high. Xuanzong escaped the disaster with the help of the God Chicken. When he left, Xuanzong stood on the peak, stroking pheasants and looking around: the towering Qinling Mountains were like a green barrier, blocking the miasma in the south; The vast northern plateau is like a dragon, blocking the sandstorm in the north; The surging Weihe River jumped out of the canyon, and the waves rolled eastward, nourishing the fertile soil on both sides. This situation is like this, this mountain and this water. The horse's pain can only be alleviated. It is better to think that this is the place where the keys are locked in the west and south of Sichuan and Guizhou, which is better than a million soldiers. When the rebels came here, it was difficult to find a dead place. So I blurted out: "Chencang, a treasure; Mountain bird, god chicken. " Baoji was named after the golden sentence of Xuanzong: "Baoji".
Since then, Chencang County has been renamed Baoji County, and Chencang Mountain is called Jifeng Mountain.
Legend 2: In the 19th year of Qin Wengong (747 BC), a Chencang man killed a monster that looked like a sheep and a pig, and prepared to give it to the monarch. But the two children advised him that it was impossible. Because this monster named Sui, just born, eats his mother with his mouth open, grows very long and sucks people's brains. Hearing this, Chencang people want to kill. Suddenly, Xiang said, "Don't kill me, let me catch these two children. They are twins, both named Chen Bao. Men are kings and women are kings. " Chencang people thought it was supernatural, put down the coffin and went to catch the child. However, the two children suddenly became two magical chickens. One flew to Nanyang, Henan Province, and a thousand years later, he was reincarnated as Emperor Guangwu Liu Xiu. The other one flew directly to the top of Chencang Mountain and became a stone chicken, as big as a sheep and as bright as jade. Chencang people let go and felt their virtue, holding grass to cover pheasants. From then on, Chen Cangshan's dense forest, blessed by stone chickens, was silent for prosperity. In the second year of Tang Zhide (AD 757), Chencang Mountain heard the cock crow again, and the sound spread for more than ten miles. When it is true, it is the critical moment of the An Shi Rebellion. Xuanzong avoided chaos and entered Sichuan. Prince Hengli ascended the throne in Lingzhou in advance, which was called Su Zong in history and led the counter-rebellion. Hearing the cock crow, Tang Jun won one after another, and the rebels were devastated. Su Zong thinks that the chicken is a national treasure, and the crowing of the chicken is an auspicious omen. He changed Chencang into Baoji, which has been used ever since.
