Why is Emperor Taizong a great hero in the history of calligraphy in China?

Emperor Taizong spared no effort to popularize calligraphy, thus creating a prosperous period of calligraphy in the Tang Dynasty.

Li Shimin is one of the most famous emperors in the history of China. When he was in office, the official was clean, so the national strength was prosperous and the people's livelihood was rich.

Emperor Taizong was a famous and outstanding politician, strategist and wise monarch in history. Little known is that he also loves art and is good at it. He is an accomplished calligrapher.

Emperor Taizong studied calligraphy from the south of the city. During his reign, he collected the works of many famous calligraphers and bound more than 300 original works into 150 volumes. In his spare time, he takes out copies and enjoys them.

Famous calligraphy works include inscriptions on Jinci Temple and hot springs. The former is vigorous and boundless, while the latter is vigorous and powerful. Both of them are the legacy of the right army, with Ingram's imperial temperament between the lines, and the two works are not inferior to all of us.

Emperor Taizong's influence on China's calligraphy history lies not only in his outstanding calligraphy creation, but also in his vigorous promotion of calligraphy as an emperor, making the Tang Dynasty the most prosperous period of calligraphy art in China's history.

When Taizong was a beginner, Hong Wen Pavilion was set on the left side of the main hall, and the art of calligraphy was taught by famous calligraphers Ou Yangxun and Yu Shinan.

In the second year of Zhenguan, "Calligraphy" was established as a specialized calligraphy institution under the jurisdiction of imperial academy. In addition to establishing calligraphy education institutions, Emperor Taizong also listed calligraphy as an important subject in the imperial examination, and clearly regarded "neat calligraphy" as one of the criteria for selecting and appointing talents in the imperial examination. Therefore, calligraphy art, as the requirement of selecting officials, has entered the system and become the strongest driving force for artistic prosperity.

Due to the advocacy of Emperor Taizong, the habit of learning calligraphy became a fashion, which prompted many literati and scholars to devote themselves to calligraphy research, and for a time, famous artists came forth in large numbers, which set off the climax of calligraphy art in Tang Dynasty.

Without the advocacy and promotion of Emperor Taizong, I am afraid there would not be so many famous artists in the Tang Dynasty, such as Yu Shinan, Chu Suiliang, Yan Zhenqing, Liu Gongquan, Huai Su, Zhang Xu and Sun. It is the most brilliant page in the history of China's calligraphy.

In this way, Li Shimin of Emperor Taizong is not only a "saint" in history, but also a great "hero" in the history of calligraphy!
