"The Saint of the East"——Ginkgo tree

Pictures and Texts/Lujun

Autumn is here. In the colorful autumn colors, in my heart, there is the kind of "one tree holding up the sky" and "yellow ginkgo leaves all over the ground." The magnificent landscape makes me feel that the ginkgo tree is the representative of autumn. I like ginkgo trees, not just for their intoxicating and quiet beauty in autumn.

I like the strong ancient culture and contribution of the ginkgo tree in the world - the saint of the East, and like the weight and tenacity of its life.

The ginkgo tree is one of the three treasures of my country's classical gardens. The ginkgo tree, peony flowers and orchids in the grass are all precious varieties. The ginkgo tree is also revered as the national tree. In his article "Ginkgo", Guo Moruo praised the ginkgo tree as "the saint of the East" and "a living memorial tower of Chinese humanities". Because after the glacial movement in the fourth century in geological history, only my country has preserved some living ginkgo trees, making it the only famous "living fossil" that survives in my country. This shows the status of the ginkgo tree in our country.

According to research, ginkgo trees existed hundreds of millions of years ago, and they belong to the same era as dinosaurs. There are many thousand-year-old ginkgo trees in our country. In addition to their adaptation to natural conditions and their tenacious vitality, they are also inseparable from our country's recognition and protection of ginkgo tree culture from generation to generation. These ancient trees often become tourist attractions for people, especially in autumn. The trees are full of golden color, and the golden leaves slowly fall to the ground. When the ground is covered layer by layer, the scenery adds a strong touch to the intoxicating beauty of autumn. . Especially in many ginkgo towns in my country, thousands of ginkgo trees stand between heaven and earth. The golden patches connect the energy between heaven and earth, conveying the feelings of ancient and modern times.

Thousand-year-old ginkgo trees all over the country include: "The No. 1 Ginkgo Tree in the World" at Dinglin Temple in Fulaishan, Ju County, Shandong; "Emperor Tree" and "Peiwang Tree" from the Tang Dynasty at Tanzhe Temple in Beijing; 2001 The ancient ginkgo tree in Fuquan, Guizhou, was recorded in the Guinness Book of Records in Shanghai in 2011; the ginkgo tree at the ancient Guanyin Temple in Xi'an was planted by Li Shimin himself according to historical records; the ginkgo tree in Ya'an, Sichuan, known as the "Sacred Tree of Zhou Gong", and so on, are ancient trees that are thousands of years old. There are many more. Some of these ancient ginkgo trees are tall and strong, and their girth exceeds the width of the "seven arms, eight arms and one daughter-in-law" in the anecdote, and even the tree holes can accommodate people; some have broad crowns and cover an area of ??hundreds or thousands of square meters. ; Some trees are more than 5,000 years old. I admire the long relationship between ginkgo trees and nature. There are countless stories hidden in these trees.

I like the philosophical meaning of the ginkgo tree of "harmony and harmony" and "unity of opposites", as well as its meaning of tenacity, longevity and love. Ginkgo trees express feelings and record many beautiful stories.

As a tall tree, the ginkgo tree has a tall and straight trunk, beautiful tree shape, tight branches and leaves, and unique leaf shape. I like ginkgo leaves no matter what stage or color they are. I like its exquisite texture and various fan shapes. There are 2 to multi-lobed concave teeth at the top of the broad leaves. Some people liken it to a duck palm leaf. Ginkgo has also been extended to have many meanings, such as "the unity of opposites", "the way of yin and yang", "harmony of life", "life and death and harmony", etc.

From the first time I went to a ginkgo country in the south when I was in high school, from the moment I picked up pieces of ginkgo leaves and carefully placed them in my notebook, I have developed a preference for ginkgo leaves. Sometimes I find a blank space and flatten them, leaving a trace of a leaf; sometimes I flatten them and seal them in plastic to use as bookmarks, or write a few words before plastic sealing to make small gifts for classmates and friends. I remember, when we graduated from college, when we left messages on each other’s graduation guest books, some of the versatile classmates not only posted a photo of themselves, but also drew a small painting, and some posted a handmade paper-cut. , some leave ink with their pens, and all kinds of calligraphy are eloquent. I don’t know any of these, so I chose a few beautiful ginkgo leaves, carefully thought about the idea, and expressed my sincere blessings.

When I was in college, because boys were not allowed to enter the girls’ dormitory, and there were no mobile phones at the time, boys usually asked their girlfriends to go downstairs to the dormitory and wait for the doorman to call them, or to ask girls in the same unit to call them by the way. I often send a message to a girl in the dormitory next door, "See you at the same place at 7pm." Once, twice—this sentence was repeated many times. At first, I thought the date place was relatively hidden and I was embarrassed to ask. Later, we got acquainted and became friends. I asked curiously and found out that the old place was a Under the well-known tall and sturdy ginkgo tree, it is near the intersection of the school cinema and the small park. I didn't understand the significance of them choosing this place for a date.

The boys graduated two years earlier than the girls, and then went to work in a hospital in a first-tier city in the south according to school assignments. After graduation, the girls were assigned to teach in a third-tier city in the north. At that time, when jobs were assigned, there were not many choices. Many lovers broke up in tears because they were not assigned to a city. The boy was transferred to a hospital in the same city three months after the girl started working. Although the treatment was not as good as in the original hospital and there were not as many opportunities, the boy's words made me remember him freshly: "Wherever she is, my heart is there." . Today, the couple has raised a pair of children, educated two college students, and leads an ordinary and happy life. I am particularly happy for them. I think that their meeting, meeting and falling in love under the ginkgo tree wrote a romantic story and a prelude to true love for them.

I also like that the ginkgo tree has the same source of medicine and food, which protects people’s health and is of great value.

The Ginkgo tree has unique ornamental and economic value, and also has health value as medicine and food. According to research, ginkgo fruits and leaves (also known as ginkgo and ginkgo leaves) have high medicinal value. They mainly have the functions of astringing the lungs, relieving asthma, promoting blood circulation and removing blood stasis, and relieving pain. Li Shizhen in the Ming Dynasty once said: "Enter the lung meridian, Benefit the spleen, relieve asthma and cough, and reduce bowel movements.”? Here is a reminder that as a medicinal material, it needs to be consumed correctly according to the guidance of a doctor, so as to ensure safety in terms of handling methods and dosage.

Now is the ginkgo fruit harvest season. After a night of wind and rain, more leaves and fruits fell on the ground, especially under the ginkgo trees on the embankment slope. I walked over and saw ginkgo leaves and ginkgo fruits spread out on the ground in front of me. I originally thought that ginkgo trees did not bear fruit. Once I was surprised to find small green and round ginkgo fruits growing on some ginkgo trees on the roadside, and then I learned that ginkgo trees are divided into male and female. Later, I occasionally saw small shriveled ginkgo fruits outside the green belt under the tree. They seemed very ordinary, so I didn't pay much attention to them.

This one is different today. It is fresh, large and plump. The fruit is relatively uniform, the size is like a jujube, the skin is slightly wrinkled, and each fruit has a slender stem. I squatted under the tree, turned around 360 degrees, and picked them up one by one. I picked up three to five kilograms in a while. Looking at this delightful fruit curiously, I smelled an indescribable smell. I have heard that ginkgo fruits have a smell, and I can accept it. Just like my favorite durian, it also has a signature smell.

This was the first time I picked up ginkgo fruits and took them home to ask a neighbor who is a traditional Chinese medicine practitioner, so I handled them with great interest.

First, remove the seed coat from the fruit. In order to prevent skin irritation, I put on rubber gloves, opened a fruit, and then squeezed it with both hands, and the fruit fell out. This fruit was shaped like a pistachio, and I filled a plate with it. Then, wash it off. Wash the wrapped ginkgo core several times in water until no pulp remains. Part of the processed ginkgo fruit can be frozen, and it is also a good choice to use it to make porridge or dishes when needed.

Next, select the cooking method. Boil the ginkgo fruits in water, boil the pot and cook for 15 minutes, or use an electric pan or microwave to pop them. I tried both methods. Cooked ginkgo fruits will open up at one end, while the latter tend to pop in the middle. There is a brown membrane between the shell and the beige flesh inside the shell. Remove the membrane before eating. Because it is slightly poisonous, the pulp has no smell. The noodles taste soft when cooked and a bit chewy when fried. It is best to eat them while they are hot.

After experiencing the ginkgo fruits picked up and made by myself, I learned more about ginkgo and liked it more.

From ancient times to the present, from spring to winter, from plains to mountaintops, ginkgo trees have performed an ordinary yet mysterious journey of living in harmony with nature, attracting everyone from common people to literati. The hymns they composed. Here, I would like to share two ancient poems. I hope that no matter how the outside world changes, the ginkgo tree will remain the same, cool and graceful.

"Charm and grace are not enough, and the sweet oranges in front of you can be slaves. Who can pity the rivers and lakes, the jade bones and ice muscles are not willing to wither."? Li Qingzhao's "Rui Partridge." "Double Ginkgo"

"Coca is not counted by the people around it, its leaves are lush and its branches are lush and green. Reading the vicissitudes of the world is like an illusion, and the record of the founding of the mountain is vague."? "The Ginkgo King" by Qianlong of the Qing Dynasty
