Feng Jing, the number one scholar in the Three Yuan Dynasty: the downfall of a famous official in the Song Dynasty

Feng Jing, the number one scholar in the first year of Emperor Renzong of the Song Dynasty, was born in Yizhou, Guangxi, and later came to Xianning, Hubei. After being tired of official duties, he took part in political affairs and envoys to the Privy Council. He was good at literature and calligraphy. He was daring in officialdom and became one of the famous officials in the Northern Song Dynasty. He was the son-in-law of Fu Bi, the famous prime minister in the early Song Dynasty.

Feng Jing (1021 (Xinyou year) ~ 1094), male, courtesy name Dangshi, was born in Jiangxia, Ezhou (now Wuchang, Hubei Province) in the Song Dynasty, and was a minister in the Northern Song Dynasty. Great-grandfather Feng Bi moved his family south to Yishanlongshui in western Guangdong (now Yizhou City, Guangxi). Later, his grandfather fell in love with Jiangxia (then under the jurisdiction of Ezhou) during an outing in Mobei, so he settled in Jiangxia (now Wuchang, Hubei). In the first year of Emperor Renzong of the Song Dynasty, he became the number one scholar in Jichou Division. He was the last number one scholar in the Song Dynasty who passed the Three Yuan Dynasty.

After Feng Jing was born, his family became increasingly poor. When he was seventeen or eighteen, his father Feng Shi, who was a businessman, passed away again, so he was even more embarrassed. In the process of studying and seeking an official position, Feng Jing once traveled to Yuhang County, Zhejiang Province. Because he defaulted on rent, he was severely restricted by the government. He had nothing to do, so he wrote a small poem on the wall of the temple where he stayed:

Han Xin lived in poverty and Xiang Yu was poor, holding a long sword to drink the autumn wind.

I lament that the eyes of all the people in the world do not recognize the man and have not helped him.

The main idea of ??this poem is: Comparing Han Xin and Xiang Yu, he said that great heroes also have times of poverty. It is a pity that no one in the world can see that he is just a hero in trouble.

Among the people who came to press for debts, there was a yamen leader named Fan Sheng. He was well versed in writing and was moved after reading this poem. He reported it to the county magistrate and spoke for Feng Jing. Please forgive me and ask for leniency. The county magistrate suspected that Fan Sheng had benefited from Feng Jing. Otherwise, how could a stranger speak for him? Fan Sheng read the suspicion in the county magistrate's eyes and tone, and took the initiative to explain: "Feng Xiucai's family is very poor, and he often has no food and clothing. How can he buy me with anything? I just read what he mentioned. Poetry, I predict that he will not be an idle person in the future!" After saying that, he took out the copied poem. The county magistrate smiled after seeing this, and indeed changed his attitude and adopted a tolerant policy towards Feng Jing.

Later, Feng Jing went to study in a monk's house in Shanshan (also known as Huoshan, in the northwest of Huoshan County, Anhui, in front of the yin qián). There was a guard dog in the monk's house. Since Feng Jing was often hungry, he made an appointment with a few poor schoolmates to secretly kill the dog and give it a good beating. The monk complained to the county, and Feng Jing and others were arrested. The county magistrate saw that he was a few scholars and not like rogues, so his attitude was not so vicious. He did not impose any other punishments, and only asked the leader Feng Jing to write an "Ode to Stealing Dogs" on the spot. The original intention of doing this was to humiliate them as a punishment. The county magistrate thought that they would ask for mercy and not write it happily. Unexpectedly, Feng Jing didn't take it seriously. He started writing as soon as he started writing, and it was completed in a short time. The county magistrate had no choice but to pick it up and read it. The poem is very beautifully written, and one of the couplets is particularly wonderful:

When the group meal is brought in, the joy falls and the tail of the mink is continued;

When it is led away by a rope, I look back at the head of the rabbit in surprise.

Several allusions are used here, and the general idea is: At that time, a rice ball was used to lure the dog to the hook, and the dog wagged its tail happily; when it was led away with a rope, the dog kept turning back in surprise.

When the county magistrate read this, he couldn't help but admire them. He was so impressed that he immediately released them and specially kept Feng Jing as an honored guest. The downfall of famous ministers of the Song Dynasty In the second year, Feng Jing passed the third place and became the leader of the world. In China's 1,300-year history of imperial examinations, there are only 17 people who can win three consecutive exams. On average, there is only one person in the past 100 years. One of them is Feng Jing.
