Is the rice paper glossy or matte?

Both glossy and matte rice paper can be used, but there are some differences in characteristics. Smooth paper has less resistance to the brush, so it is easier to complete the stippling you want when painting, and it is easier to grasp the discretion. However, the penetration effect of rough surface is better, and more efforts should be made when writing, so that the fonts written are vigorous and powerful.

Smooth surface, a glossy rice paper, is not easy to smudge when writing, and it is smooth and tidy. Beginners can choose a glossy paper at the beginning of learning, so that practicing lowercase letters will be smoother and the details between strokes will be easy to master.

Rough surface is rough surface. When writing with a pen, there will be a sense of stagnation. The copybooks that need to be written with greater efforts will be more beautiful and natural, and the friction with the brush will be great. Suitable for calligraphers who have studied for a long time, it is easy to reflect the brushwork, and the change of ink color will be more obvious.

Method of selecting rice paper

Four keys to choose a good Xuan paper: observation, feeling, shaking and trying.

1, view

Good paper is not necessarily white, leather paper is white, but it is not reflective, not dazzling, and the texture is uniform. There should be no ridges, sand grains, holes and other attachments on the paper surface.

Step 2 feel

Touched by hand, it feels astringent, uniform in thickness, smooth, soft and delicate;

Step 3 shake

Pick up the paper by hand and shake it gently. The sound is not crisp and the paper is not good. If the paper is shaken, it will make a crisp sound, and the paper is hard and hard, which is inferior paper;

Step 4 try

When the ink is coated on the paper, the paper reacts quickly, spreads evenly, and the outer edge of the ink halo is serrated. When the ink is completely eaten in the paper, draw it again, and the effect is clear. There is a thin white print between the two ink halos. Dark and light pen marks do not flow, but they can show subtle feelings of thick and light, light and thick, wet and dry.
