Li Shimin was very strict with him, and Li Chenggan's teachers often criticized her, which obviously aggravated Li Chenggan's rebellion and sensitivity and became the main reason for his rebellion. For example, in 640 (the 14th year of Tang Kaiyuan), Li Chenggan built a house, and the teacher criticized him for his extravagance. Another example is Li Chenggan playing with eunuchs. Yu Zhining criticized him again and even compared him to Qin Ershi. As we all know, in ancient China, Qin Ershi was called the king who led to the demise of the Qin Dynasty.
Therefore, it is an excessive criticism to compare Li Chenggan with Qin Ershi and Qin Sanshi. However, according to Yu Zhining and other important officials, Li Shimin can be humble to Wei Zhi and coachable, and you should learn to lecture your father in Li Chenggan. However, in fact, not everyone can reach the level of Li Shimin. So this kind of accusation, especially excessive accusation, makes Li Chenggan's character more rebellious, that is, the more you want me, the worse I am.
In addition to the accusations of the Crown Prince's teachers, Li Shimin was also very strict with Li Chenggan. Li Chenggan, for example, has a "beautiful face and is good at singing and dancing performances", which is called contentment. Li Shimin, the emperor of Emperor Taizong, flew into a rage and killed him at will. As a result of this incident, there was a bad feeling between Li Chenggan and Li Shimin, that is, the latter thought it was a sign of cherishing his performance, while the former obviously didn't think so. On the other hand, Li Shimin's doting on other sons contributed to Li Chenggan's negative mentality, which was regarded as a prelude to the abolition of the Prince.
In fact, however, before Li Chenggan's rebellion, Emperor Taizong and Li Shimin had no intention of abolishing the Prince. Among them, Lee Tae, the fourth son of Emperor Taizong, was a famous calligrapher and connoisseur of calligraphy and painting, and of course he was spoiled by Li Shimin. For Li Shimin, although he dotes on Li Chenggan, he will not ignore other clever children.
In the end, however, it was precisely because of Li Shimin's connivance that Li Taicai gradually came up with an idea about the mercy seat, that is, Lee Tae formed an illusion that Li Shimin was expected to abolish the Prince. It is worth noting that this illusion was formed not only by Lee Tae, but also by Crown Prince Li Chenggan, which made sensitive and rebellious Li Chenggan very nervous. In ancient times, in history, once the crown prince was abolished, he would not only suffer from coldness, but also be forced by the new crown prince. In view of this, Li Chenggan naturally spared no effort to prevent the birth of this situation. So, in the seventeenth year of Zhenguan (643), Crown Prince Li Chenggan colluded with Hanwang, Princess Xu of Chengyang, a surname and Hou, and prepared to send troops to seize power first.
Naturally, Li Chenggan was not from Li Shimin, the king of Qin, who was not so powerful and had a bad reputation. His rebellious personal behavior, of course, was discovered immediately. In addition, in my opinion, Li Chenggan often rebelled, probably because of the change of Xuanwu Gate, because a successful case appeared before that, which prompted him to take risks. It is worth noting that Li Chenggan should have been executed after the rebellion failed. However, due to Li Shimin's spoil, Li Chenggan was exiled to Guizhou, and he was lucky to save his life.
