Wu Wanli’s prototype is Zhou Quandi.

The prototype of Wu Wanli in "Changjin Lake" is Brother Zhou Quan, who is also one of the survivors of the Ice Sculpture Company. He was born in 1934 in a remote mountain village in southern County, Sichuan Province. There are also 4 brothers and sisters, and he ranks third in the family. Zhou Quandi has been smart since he was a child. No matter who taught him something, he can quickly remember it.

Zhou Quandi is a former soldier of the 1st Battalion and 2nd Company of the 231st Regiment of the 26th Army and 77th Division of the Chinese People's Volunteer Army, and a first-level disabled soldier. On October 25, 1950, he crossed the Yalu River at night from Dandong, Liaoning Province with the troops to enter North Korea.

In the blocking battle against the 1st Marine Division, the US ace force, and the 31st Regiment of the 7th US Division, he wore a thin cotton coat, relied on snow and water to satisfy his hunger, and lurked in the snow at minus 40 degrees Celsius. Three days and three nights, severe frostbite resulted in amputation of all four limbs.

When Zhou Quandi discovered that all his hands and feet had been amputated, he had to amputate them because they were frozen. Zhou Quandi was heartbroken and had thoughts of committing suicide. Later, he survived with his strong will.

After that, Zhou Quandi was sent to a military sanatorium, where he faced difficulties in daily life, eating, and washing. Zhou Quandi once again overcame all these difficulties with his strong will. Then Zhou Quandi wanted to apply to join the party, but he had to write a party application form, so he immediately started practicing calligraphy with two broken arms.

Finally, through unremitting efforts, I became good at calligraphy and successfully joined the party. He also found the meaning of life in writing. After long-term practice, his calligraphy developed his own style, which was well received by professional calligraphers. He has participated in many calligraphy competitions and exhibitions at all levels and won numerous awards. Over the past few decades, Zhou Quandi has accumulated nearly 2,000 calligraphy works.
