During their four years as diplomatic envoys of the Qing government in Japan, many famous Japanese calligraphers, such as Yayoi Kusama He Ming, Iwatani Liu Yi and Matsuda Xue Ke, bowed to Yang Shoujing's door and set off a wave of advocating the style of northern Wei calligraphy in Japanese book circles, which triggered the modernization of Japanese calligraphy and was honored as "the father of Japanese calligraphy modernization" by Japanese book circles, making great contributions to the cultural exchange between China and Japan.
