There was a saying before that Wang Xizhi likes geese because he likes to eat goose meat. However, this statement is obviously untenable. I just like to eat goose in restaurants. Why buy geese? There was another story before. An old lady keeps a goose in this place. This goose is beautiful and can sing, which makes Wang Xizhi like it very much. He wants to buy it and see for himself. But the old lady didn't know he was Wang Xizhi, so she refused his request and didn't sell it at all. Later, Wang Xizhi invited friends to watch it together, and the old lady realized that the person who wanted to buy her goose was Wang Xizhi, so she slaughtered the goose and wanted to entertain him. Wang Xizhi was very sad to see the goose die. It is not difficult to see from this story that Wang Xizhi loves geese not because he likes to eat goose meat.
Wang Xizhi's love for geese is probably due to the posture of the goose paddling, which is very inspiring for him to practice calligraphy. When a goose paddles, its feet are hard. Is this posture very similar to the calligrapher's hanging wrist posture when using a pen? Although this comparison is not appropriate, since Wang Xizhi thinks that watching geese is helpful for him to learn calligraphy, it shows that there is still a certain correlation between the two. The same is true of Wang Xizhi's willingness to trade his Mo Bao for a flock of geese. His obsession with geese is actually his obsession with calligraphy, hoping to find the meaning of calligraphy from everything.
Judging from this interpretation, Wang Xizhi is really a master of calligraphy.
