Among the classic running script works handed down from generation to generation in China, there is a masterpiece, which is the masterpiece of Wen Zhiming, a great calligrapher in the Ming Dynasty after he was 80 years old, and also the running script masterpiece in his life. This work is the famous Preface to Wang Teng Pavilion.
Throughout the history of calligraphy, Wen Zhiming is definitely a master. In the genealogy of "Two Kings", there are often only a few heirs, while in the Ming Dynasty, there were only Dong Qichang, Wang Duo. Wen Zhiming, in particular, can be said to be a master, and his writing has truly achieved the unique bookish spirit of "integration of people and books", which has been remarkable for 500 years.
Wen Zhiming's running script can be roughly divided into two styles:
The first one is a running script sketch based on Wang Xizhi's preface to the holy teachings. The first one is a large printed letter written in a yellow valley.
Before he formed these two styles, he also went through the stage of learning. He not only searched Wang Xizhi's calligraphy posts as much as possible, but also studied Yan Zhenqing's competing for a seat, offering a memorial to his nephew, Liu Zhong's postscript, Yingzhou's post, Su Dongpo's Poem on the Former Red Cliff (which was supplemented by Su Ti) and Huang Gu's Poem on Jingfubo Temple.
Sometimes, like Zhu Yunming, he writes his own poems in the style of Su, Huang and Mi. Of course, he did not stay at this stage, but entered the post-study, abandoned the ancient method, and finally found his own brushwork that suited his nature.
