The standard of judging calligraphy: brushwork

Many people always think that the quality of calligraphy lies in whether the font is beautiful or not. If the font is well written, the calligraphy must be good. Is that really the case? The ancients didn't think so about the quality of calligraphy. For example, Ouyang Xiu, Mi Fei and others think that learning calligraphy should be self-contained. Mi Fei said, "Ancient books are different. If they are similar, they are slaves. " In other words, calligraphy is not a good calligraphy requirement, even though it depicts the glyphs of the ancients.

So, what is the standard to consider the quality of calligraphy? To be sure, it is determined by the brushwork.

The brushwork is the rule of the pen.

Writing with a pen is writing with a pen. Brush strokes determine the quality of stippling and the level of calligraphy. Since we think that the quality of calligraphy does not lie in the beauty of fonts, the quality of stippling can be determined by strokes.

How to write high-quality pens?

First, you need to know how to spread it. Unfolding brush strokes is a very important basic writing method. The ancients said "ten thousand strokes of Qi Li", that is to say, in writing, we should put every stroke in place, let them play their respective strengths, and let stippling play its full role in writing, so that the stippling written will have a sense of texture.

Second, it must be delivered in place. In the process of writing, the quality of stippling is not high, the lines are floating and there is no sinking force. One of the fundamental reasons is that the brush is not pushed in place during the writing process. Some people think that cursive writing is a fast writing method, and it is impossible to write with a slow pen. This statement is reasonable, but the problem it can bring is that the stipple pen has not been paid enough attention to and the "Chinese" pen has been ignored. At this time, there is also a situation that the promotion in the later stage of painting is not in place. Some people pay attention to the place where the pen is started, but lack the pen collection in the back end, which will lead to the low quality of stippling and floating results.

Third, be exquisite with a pen. Exquisite means precise and meticulous. Especially in learning calligraphy, besides knowing some common sense of calligraphy, more time and energy are spent on copying and practicing. However, these practices are not hasty and extensive learning. Some people who have learned things often work hard from the exquisiteness and meticulous stippling. Only in this way can the pen tip be delivered in place and play the ultimate performance.
