It is the Yellow Valley. He is a great poet as famous as Su Dongpo.
Huang Shanshangu is from Xiushui County, Jiangxi Province. This story comes from the Xiushui County Chronicle.
After Huangshan Valley became a Jinshi, he was appointed by the imperial court as the prefect of Huangzhou. He was only twenty-six years old when he took office.
One day he had a dream when he was taking a nap. He dreamed that he walked out of the government office and went to a village. He saw an old woman with white hair standing in front of the incense table outside his house. He was eating a bowl of celery noodles and calling someone's name. Huang Shangu walked forward and saw that the bowl of noodles was steaming and seemed delicious. He picked it up to eat unconsciously. After eating, he returned to the Yamen. When he woke up, the smell of celery was still in his mouth. His dream was very clear, but Huang Shangu thought it was a dream and didn't take it seriously.
When I took my nap the next day, I dreamed of the same scene again. When I woke up, I had the smell of celery in my mouth. I felt very strange, so I got up and walked out of the Yamen, following the path in my dream. When I walked to the door of the old woman's house, I knocked on the door and went in. It was the old woman I saw in my dream, so I asked her if she was standing outside the door asking people to eat noodles.
The old woman replied: "Yesterday was the anniversary of my daughter's death. Because she liked to eat celery noodles when she was alive, I called her outside the door to eat noodles. I call her like this every year."
"How long has it been since my daughter died?"
"It has been twenty-six years."
Huang Shangu thought to himself that he was exactly twenty-six years old, and yesterday was also his It was her birthday, so she asked her about her daughter’s life and who else was in the family.
The old woman said: "I only have one daughter. She used to like reading, recite Buddha's name and eat vegetarian food. She was very filial, but she refused to get married. She fell ill and died when she was twenty-six years old. When she died, she told me that she She wants to come back to see me."
"Where is her boudoir? Can I see it?" Huang Shangu asked.
The old woman pointed to a room and said: "This is the room. Go in and see for yourself. I will pour you tea."
Gu Gu walked into the room and saw only the room. In addition to tables and chairs, there is a large locked cabinet against the wall.
Valley asked: "What's inside?"
"They are all my daughter's books."
"Can I open it?"
"She didn't know where she put the key, so it couldn't be opened."
Gu Gu thought for a moment, remembered where the key was, and told the old woman to find it and opened the bookcase and found many manuscripts. When he looked carefully, he found that all the articles he wrote for each test paper were in it, and they were word for word.
Only then did Huang Shangu fully understand that he had returned to his hometown in his previous life. The old woman was his mother in his previous life, and she was the only one left in his hometown. So Huang Gugu knelt down and worshiped on the ground, explaining that he was the reincarnation of her daughter and recognized her as his mother. Then he returned to the government office and brought people to greet his old mother and support her for life.
Later, Huang Shangu planted a clump of bamboo in the back garden of the government office and built a pavilion, which he named "Dicui Pavilion". In the pavilion, there was a stone tablet carved by Huang Shangu. He inscribed the portrait and praised it:
Like a monk with hair, like a worldly person free from dust;
Dreaming within a dream, realizing the outer body.
Written his reflections on his own reincarnation. Later, when Yuan Mei, a poet of the Ming Dynasty, read this story, he wrote the famous line "It is too late to read the book in this life", which means that the great people like Huangshan Valley Literary writers, people who are good at poetry, calligraphy and painting, did not just start reading in this life. They have already read many books in previous lives.
Standing on his own Sansheng Stone
Huang Gushan realized the principle of reincarnation. In his later years, he practiced Zen and became a vegetarian. He once wrote a poem about abstaining from killing:
My flesh The flesh of living beings has different names but not different bodies;
They are of the same nature, but have different shapes and bodies.
My sufferings are from him, and I am rich and sweet;
Don’t teach Yan Lao Duan, what do you think?
This is the origin of Huang Shangu's writing, "It's like a monk with hair, like a worldly person who has escaped from the dust; dreaming within a dream, realizing the outer body."
Hope it can help you~
