A detailed explanation of Laozi's moral classics

The moral classic building of Longxingguan in Yixian County has always been highly valued by the national cultural relics department. It was first listed as a provincial cultural relics protection unit in Hebei Province, and/kloc-0 was listed as a national key cultural relics protection unit in the State Council in 1996.

The building is about 6 meters high and is divided into three parts: the building seat, the building body and the roof. Except that the roof is bluestone, the rest are white marble. The building is a stone sumeru, with a height of 0.25m and a diameter of1.1m. There is a square platform under the pedestal, which was built by later generations. The building is made of two white marble stone carvings, an octagonal cylinder with a height of 4.29 meters (the upper block is 70 cm high and the lower block is 3.59 m high), a diameter of 90 cm and a width of 40-42 cm on each side. Seen from the east, the block of the building is written in block letters with eighteen characters, covering three sides, "Notes of Emperor Daodejing of Emperor Tai Shang Xuanyuan and SHEN WOO of Tang Kaiyuan". On December 14th, the 20th year of Kaiyuan, Emperor Xuanzong of the Tang Dynasty issued an imperial edict, praising the Tao Te Ching, demanding that "scholars keep a copy of the Tao Te Ching at home and order them to study it so that they can know what it means".

Laozi's Classic of Tao Te Ching is engraved on the four sides of the downstairs seat in turn, with a total of 81 chapters. There is a stone lotus throne at the top of the building, which is the roof. The top of the building has been broken. It was originally carved from a huge blue stone, 38 cm high, with a roof shape and an octagonal shape, consistent with the shape of the building. Carve eight ridges from the octagonal flat top, tile ridges between the ridges, and then cornices, cornices and rafters. There is a bucket arch support of "one bucket and three liters" under the corner beam. The whole building is slender, simple and elegant, with an octagonal roof, which provides an example for the study of Tang Dynasty architecture. Laozi's Moral Classic Building was built in the 26th year of Kaiyuan in Tang Dynasty (AD 738). At first, it was located in Kaiyuan Temple in the west of Yixian County. Moved to the official residence in the Southern Song Dynasty, and later moved to the present county address.

Laozi's Moral Classic Building is not far from the yi county Municipal Government. Laozi Moral Classic Building is located in the northeast of the old city of Xingtai, in the backyard of Nanchang Street Office. The original building in Longxingguan no longer exists, and it is surrounded by farmhouses and small farmland. The whole building is well preserved, but there are some defects and rubbings of later generations. According to legend, the full text of Chapter 8 1 of Tao Te Ching and Laozi written by Su Lingzhi in Tang Dynasty is clear and easy to read. The scripture on the upper floor was written according to the annotation of Xuanzong of Tang Dynasty. Because of the clear inscription, this Confucian classics building has long been an important material for people to proofread and translate Laozi's Tao Te Ching. In order to strengthen protection, the local cultural relics department has also built a hexagonal pavilion on the building in recent years.

Laozi's moral classic building has experienced 1200 years of vicissitudes, and it is the only remaining stone carving Laozi's moral classic building in China. It was built in the 25th year of Kaiyuan in Tang Dynasty (AD 737). At that time, Li Longji, Emperor Xuanzong of the Tang Dynasty, thought that Laozi was his distant ancestor, so he personally annotated 81 moral classics of Laozi and carved stones to set up a monument for later generations. In the Tang Dynasty, there were all such classic buildings in Shangguan houses, and this one was the only one left in yi county.
