Hundreds of Life Pictures
There are one hundred ways to write the word longevity. Writing all these hundred characters is what we often call hundred years of longevity. Pictured
Baishou Town, Yongfu County, Guilin City, Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, is about 90 kilometers south of Guilin City. There is a natural cave under Shouxing Mountain (also known as Gezu Mountain and Duihe Mountain) about 1 km northeast of the town. The cave is more than 10 meters high and 17 meters wide. It was called "Fuzi Rock" in ancient times and is now called "Baishou Rock". There are many ancient stone carvings in the rock. The largest stone carving, "Hundred Years of Life", is known as a "national treasure" and has long been famous at home and abroad. It has been listed as a key cultural relic protection unit in the autonomous region and has been included in the "Dictionary of Chinese Scenic Spots".
The "100-year-old Picture" has been widely praised as a rare treasure since the Song Dynasty. Especially during the Southern Song Dynasty, workshops specializing in rubbings and mounting "Hundred Years of Life Pictures" flourished for a long time. Nobles in the court, scholarly families, and common people are all proud to own a "hundred life picture". Hang it in the hall and the door will suddenly shine, and guests will rush to see it! In ancient times, merchants who traveled far or traveled in officialdom even used the "Hundred Life Picture" as a treasure to protect their wealth and safety!
It is said that in ancient times there was a Dansha Well in front of Baishou Rock, with sweet and cool water. A pair of fat and white children often appear and appear, transformed by the thousand-year-old bird spirit. Liao Fu and his family who live here often drink water from this well. Liao Shougao died without illness when he was more than 150 years old. Later, hundreds of his family members also lived a long life.
Later, a corrupt official heard about this and planned to live forever. He often feeds on the water from this well, and orders people to dig up "live-headed birds" and cook them. Unexpectedly, he died! The Dansha Well also dried up and disappeared. Future generations will sigh when they no longer have access to such a longevity remedy. Therefore, someone once made a couplet in front of the Avalokitesvara Shrine in the rock:
Such deeds have happened in the world. Once upon a time, the clear water and Dansha could not be found!
There are no gods in Shouyan, but now they are settled in the green mountains and green trees. I am late!
In the second year of Shaoding in the Song Dynasty (1229 AD), Shi Wei, who was the magistrate of Yongning County at that time, felt this matter. On his birthday celebration, he wrote the word "big longevity" and invited hundreds of longevity people in the county. The old man each wrote the characters "Xiaoshou", which he personally arranged and wrote into the strokes of "Dashou" over the years, and then hired famous craftsmen to carve them on the stone wall inside the rock, which became the current "Hundred Life Picture".
"Hundred Years of Life" is 175 cm high and 148 cm wide. The strokes of the entire font are very compact and the strokes are powerful. The form is regular script but different from block script. It is more solemn, simple and rounded. Its hooks are like exposed edges and its points are like fairy peaches. It is neither regular script, nor official script, nor running script, nor cursive calligraphy, but it has the charm of regular script, official script, running script, and cursive script. However, it is completely integrated, flawless and flawless!
The 100 small longevity characters in the "Hundred Years of Life Picture" are all unique and have different fonts, and none of them are similar. Among them, regular script, official script, seal script, running script, cursive script, oracle bone script are all included, and the source of the style is also noted next to the character Xiaoshou. Among them, according to the dynasty, there are Shang Dingwen, Zhou Dingwen, Han Dingwen, etc.; according to the region (the name of the country in ancient times), there are Fin Li, Yan Shu, Xixia Taishu, etc.; in terms of fonts, there are Yi Zhuan, Guli, Gu Doujin Wen, Fei Bai, etc.; as far as calligraphers are concerned, there are Cheng Miao, Huaisu, Yu (Shinan), Cai (Xiang), Xiao Wang (Xianzhi), and the "Changing Goose Scripture" style of calligraphy sage Wang Xizhi etc. There are also tadpole scripts, star-shaped scripts, fire scripts, tree scripts, dragon scripts, phoenix scripts, treasure-gathering scripts, etc., which are written according to their shapes. In the peach-shaped dot's "Collection of Treasures", there are also corals, ivory, rhinoceros horns, pearls, bear paws, jade and so on, all of which are lifelike and dazzling.
In the "Hundred Life Picture", we can also see the broadness and profoundness of the Chinese national culture. It is an example of the absorption and compatibility of ethnic minority cultures, foreign cultures, and religious cultures. The "Jade Emperor's Astronomy" and "God's Seal" in the picture are quite mythical and legendary; the "Yaochi Treasure Meaning", "Sili Buddha Book", "Western Sanskrit Book" and so on have a strong Buddhist color; "Xixia Taishu" It also reflects the integration of Han culture and minority culture, and "Feizhangfu", "Huangji Seal", "Qinghuang Junshu", "Xuanli" and "Emperor Jade Certificate" also reveal the charm of Taoism; in " The corals, pearls, ivory, etc. in "Jubao Wen" can also vaguely see the historical trajectory of cultural exchanges between China and foreign countries.
Among the inscriptions of the "Hundred Years of Life", there are "Xu Baigong", "Xu Jiaozong", "Zheng Shangshu", "Gao Jiaxian", "Mrs. Jie", "Mrs. Huakui" and other unknown ancient calligraphers. Call it the handiwork of a famous artist. Unfortunately, the sea of ??books is vast and traces are hard to find. Especially for female calligraphers in ancient my country, except for a few of their names in the "Hundred Life Pictures", their reputations are rarely seen at home and abroad.
