Six-year-old Haiyan lives in a seaside town with her father Dayong and her mother Jinhua. In Haiyan's eyes, her father is the best person in the world, but actually Dayong was married once and had a daughter. He has been secretly taking care of his ex-wife and daughter without telling Jinhua. His ex-wife got leukemia, and Dayong had no money, so he had to steal factory goods and sell them.
Jinhua was furious when he learned the truth and had a big fight with Dayong. Dayong followed the ocean-going cargo ship to sea, trying to make some money to fill the vacancy.
Just after Dayong went to sea, Dayong's ex-wife got worse, and Jinhua went to the hospital to take care of her. Before his death, his ex-wife entrusted her daughter Hai Jun to Jinhua: "You are a good person, and you will be good to her." Jinhua tearfully agreed to her last request before she died.
Jinhua took Haiyan home and let Haiyan know this sister. She took her two daughters alone, waiting for Dayong to return from the sea, but the bad news came: the ship was lost and Dayong's whereabouts were unknown!
A few years later, Haiyan Haijun has become a middle school student of eleven or twelve. She is graceful, can sing and dance, and is two flowers in the school. Jinhua pushes a cart to buy fish balls all day, and it is very hard to do housework. Haiyan thinks that her mother drove her father away according to her childhood ignorance, so she opposes her mother everywhere. Hai Jun understands her mother and helps her.
Haiyan has a stubborn classmate, A Lang, who often plays tricks on Haiyan. As a matter of fact, A Lang's life is unfortunate: his father was violent and forced A Lang to help him steal. If you don't listen, you will add your fists. A Lang regarded Haiyan as a dream in his life. Haiyan was also attracted by A Lang's stubbornness, and they became friends.
