Hui ink is Huizhou ink (Jixi, Xiuning and She County in Huizhou in the south of the Yangtze River are the manufacturing centers of Hui ink). Hui ink is a treasure of the ink-making skills of the Chinese Han people, and is also one of the "Four Treasures of the Study" famous both at home and abroad. It is named after it was produced in ancient Huizhou Prefecture. The ink making process in Huizhou should have started no later than the Tang Dynasty. It is the most beloved token of calligraphers and painters. The ancients once said: "A person with good ink is like a famous general with a good horse."
Jixi County, Xiuning and She County in Huizhou are the manufacturing centers of Huizhou. The earth ink that won the gold medal at the Panama International Exposition in 1915 is a treasure among Jixi Hu Kai's ink paintings. Since modern times, Huizhou ink has innovated, developed and restored the production of tea ink, green ink, cinnabar ink, multicolored ink and antique hand-rolled ink on the basis of inheriting traditional crafts, and has added and developed new varieties. In 1989, the "Super Lacquer Smoke Ink" produced by Lao Hu Kaiwen Ink Factory in Shexian County won the National Gold Medal.
“The world’s ink industry is in Jixi.” Among contemporary famous Hui ink masters, there are Shi Haiming and others in Jixi. In particular, Shi Haiming is famous at home and abroad and has been passed down for a long time. He enriched and developed the ink-making technology of his predecessors and became a unique one. Jixi Youxuanzhai has also restored some excellent traditional products represented by ancient lamp oil smoke and deer antler glue, such as "gold paste water blue", "rhinoceros like jade", "light like lacquer", "love like gold" ", "Zi Qiong Shuang", "Song Zihou", etc. are all high-quality ink ingots with both practical and appreciation values.
