So it is synonymous with "giving up". In Oracle Bone Inscriptions and Jinwen, the word Yu is like a house supported by a tree. The upper part is the roof, and the lower part is the beam frame and columns. The whole glyph looks like a building drawing of a side building. Yu's original meaning is house.

Later, it evolved into the first person "I" and redundant "Yu", both of which are the extended meanings of the house, and the original meaning of "Yu" has long since disappeared. The early Yu people were a group of people who were good at building houses with trees. They regard the house as the primitive totem of the clan, and the house supported by trees represents the clan emblem and name. I live in a place with the word Yu, and the castle is called, which eventually developed into a country with Yu as its country and Yu as its surname.
