Historical origin
During the Tianbao period of the Tang Dynasty, there were "paper and pens" on the boats of Xuancheng County among the tributes shipped to Chang 'an, the capital of China. It can be seen that there were already papers and pens produced in Xuancheng County at that time.
After the Song and Yuan Dynasties, a group of Cao Shi moved to Xiaoling, Jingxian County, Anhui Province, and began the process of making "Xuan Paper" with green sandalwood bark as raw material. During the Xuande period of the Ming Dynasty (1426- 1435), the production of "Xuan Paper" was supervised by the royal family.
Yuanshu paper is mainly produced in Fuyang City, Zhejiang Province, with a long history of production. Northern Song Zhenzong period (998- 1022) was selected as "imperial paper".
It was originally called Yuan Shu Paper because it was used to write sacrificial ceremonies during the Emperor's Yuan Festival (Yuanri Temple Festival). Because the then minister Xie Fuchun supported the production of this document, it was still called Xie Gongzhi or Xie Gongjian.
