Wu Hufan (1894--1968), the grandson of Wu Dazheng, a famous calligrapher and painter in the Qing Dynasty, is a master of modern painting and a calligraphy and painting connoisseur. Influenced by his family since childhood, he studied painting from Lu Lianfu. After going to Shanghai, he opened a calligraphy and painting office and Zhengshe calligraphy and painting association. In his early years, he and Pu Ru were called "Southern Wu and Northern Pu". Later, he was as famous as Wu Zishen, Wu Daiqiu and Feng Chaoran. He was known as "Three Wus and One Feng" in the maritime painting circle. I have seen exquisite calligraphy in the paintings of master Wu Hufan before.
