There are three levels of calligraphy.
At present, China Calligraphers Association has three major items: soft pen non-professional calligraphy examination, soft pen professional calligraphy examination and hard pen calligraphy examination.
Among them, the soft pen non-professional and hard pen calligraphy examination grades are divided into three levels and ten levels: elementary (level 1-3), intermediate (level 4-6) and advanced (level 7-1). One to three levels of calligraphy examination are set up for the soft pen professional calligraphy examination, and obtaining the professional third-level certificate can be one of the conditions for joining the China Book Association.
Calligraphy level and examination content
1. Elementary level (level 1-3)
Mainly assess the copying ability of learners: be familiar with the use of brush, and keep correct writing posture and writing method. Learn the basic structure of Chinese characters and master the basic brushwork of Chinese character writing by copying the law posts, so as to achieve the requirements of accurate stippling and proper structural proportion.

2. Intermediate (Grade 4-6)
It mainly examines learners' ability to transform from copying to creation: through copying and initial creation training, they gradually meet the requirements of skilled pen, accurate stippling and complete and reasonable structure and composition.

3. Advanced (Grade 7-1)
It is mainly used to assess learners' creative ability: through the combination of creative and copying training, they can achieve skillful and natural brushwork, flexible stippling, complete and reasonable structure and composition, and have individual expression on the basis of tradition.
