During the Liang Wudi period of the Southern Dynasty (502-549), Zhou Xingsi, assistant minister of the Three Rides outside Yuan Dynasty, was ordered by the emperor to select 1000 from Wang Xizhi's calligraphy and compile a book, which was the first "thousand-character text" in China history.
