Yuan Zhongping, whose ancestral home is in Jiangxi, has been a traditional Chinese medicine practitioner for generations, and his hall name is "Shengmaotang". During the Anti-Japanese War, in order to protect the family and the country, my father and uncle both joined the army and graduated from the 13th class of Whampoa Military Academy. My father was both a soldier and a scholar. He was good at poetry and writing, and he was also good at playing the flute. Yuan Zhongping, who was born in Taiwan, loved watching his father write calligraphy when he was a child. Every time during the Chinese New Year, you can even appreciate my father’s beautiful and practical Spring Festival couplets. He said: "Perhaps it's because I like to watch my father's calligraphy. When I was young, I already liked to use a brush to copy the Chinese characters for a hundred years."
As a teenager, Yuan Zhongping was a well-known campus singer in Taiwan. He, famous musicians Tong Ange and Qiu Yueyuan were classmates in the Fuxing Commerce, Industry and Art Department, and all three of them loved music and art. Yuan Zhongping is the leader and conductor of the school choir. In 1978, the three formed the choir "Traveler", which became popular among thousands of fans. At that time, Yuan Zhongping was the most surrounded and fascinated figure among girls in "Traveler". Yuan Zhongping has become famous at a young age. When walking on the street, he is often recognized by fans and asked for autographs. He said that at that time, all men in Taiwan were facing the problem of military service. He was exempted from military service because of his amblyopia in his left eye. At the height of his popularity, he decided to quit and came to the United States to study in 1983. In 1989, Yuan Zhongping won the Golden Tripod Award for Best Composition sponsored by the Information Bureau of the Executive Yuan of Taiwan for his album "Happy Journey".
Taiwan Haishan Records Co., Ltd. once published the folk-style "Traveler Trio" album for them. The entire album is romantic, sentimental, and full of nostalgia.
