At the last moment of his life, although he wrote "mixed feelings of sadness and joy", he actually reached the realm of "everything is born from the heart, free, without joy or bitterness, without joy or sadness", which is exactly what Buddhists call "viewing freedom".
To achieve this state, it is necessary to be completely "empty", which is why Master Hongyi's four words "the intersection of sadness and joy" cannot be imitated. These four words are far from being written with a pen, but with "empty".
And emptiness is absolute rationality and objectivity, that is, the so-called "heaven and earth perspective" in the secular world, which can also be called the perspective of Buddha. To do this, we must be completely without me. That is to say, when Master Hongyi wrote these four words, he was actually not "Master Hongyi", but everything in the world.
Summary of Three Essentials of Master Hongyi:
1, lack of knowledge leads to worry.
Lack of knowledge and difficulties in decision-making can lead to over-thinking, worry, doubt and insecurity. Therefore, sometimes, the thoughtful and fearful life is not given to us by the outside world, but caused by our own shallow knowledge. If we want to change this situation, we must enrich ourselves and broaden our horizons.
"Learn from history"-read more excellent books of predecessors, learn their wisdom and experience, naturally understand things and know how to deal with them.
2. Lack of prestige leads to more anger.
Wade gets angry easily if he is not convinced by the public. Some people use anger to establish prestige, but it will actually be counterproductive, because anger will expose the shortcomings of virtue.
Prestige comes from virtue, and the power of morality can conquer the masses. A truly learned and moral person must be modest, respectful and approachable, and there is no way to attract everyone's disgust with anger.
3. If you don't believe enough, say more.
People with insufficient credit usually spare no effort to talk more when others don't believe them. There is a saying in the Book of Changes: Lucky people talk less, impetuous people talk more. Talking too much sometimes shows a person's lack of credit, so it is very important to keep your promise.
