Mr. Chen Congzhou not only has in-depth research and unique views on ancient architecture and garden theory, but also participated in the design and construction of a large number of practical projects, such as the design and restoration of Oriental Yuyuan Garden, Longhua Pagoda, Tianyi Pavilion in Ningbo and Rugao Ink Garden, the design and construction of a large number of garden buildings such as Nanyuan in Yunnan, and the transfer of Suzhou Netscape Garden to the Metropolitan Museum of New York in the form of "Xuan Ming". Become the first modern person to push China garden art to the world.
Mr. Chen Congzhou is also a famous prose writer and painter, and a disciple of Mr. Zhang Daqian. 1948, at the age of 30, he held a solo exhibition in Shanghai, famous for "A little willow, an inch of tenderness". Later, Chen Congzhou's painting collection was published, and Zhang Daqian generously signed it. After middle age, critics said that the painted orchids and bamboos were "more interesting than pens, more interesting than law, and they jumped out of the box and got rid of the previous stereotypes." /kloc-in the winter of 0/978, he was invited to design "Xuan Ming" for the Metropolitan Museum. I.M. Pei asked him to write a long scroll "Famous Garden Yun Lan" in ink painting, and invited domestic cultural experts to write poems. As an essayist, he has published some prose works, such as Shu Dai Ji, Chuntai Collection, Lian Qing Ji, Random Thoughts Collection, Poem Garden Collection and Zi Shi Yu Mo with more than 400,000 words.
Although Mr Chen Congzhou left us, he left many precious things to future generations. Every page of these works is saturated with his painstaking efforts and his love and true feelings for our Chinese civilization. When we read these works carefully, we will gradually indulge in those lines involuntarily, enjoy the richness and fragrance of China traditional culture and art, and fully appreciate the charm of ancient architecture and gardens in China. As Mr. Ye Shengtao said in a letter about "Talking about Gardens", "Since Brother Zhou, philosophical thinking and the art of writing have merged into one furnace, thus achieving gardens, and reaching this lofty realm is admirable and endless."
At the suggestion of Mr. I.M. Pei, a famous American architect, the School of Architecture and Urban Planning established the Chen Congzhou Education Award Fund to award outstanding teachers and students every year to commemorate and promote Mr. Chen Congzhou's moral demeanor.
