Hou Jigao was not only an anti-Japanese general, but also a calligrapher with certain attainments. When he visited Putuo Mountain, he wrote inscriptions on Baihua Mountain, Pantuo Stone, and Haitian Buddha Kingdom. The font is the same as the wonders of mountains and seas, with vigorous brushwork and full ink. Especially the "Haitian Buddha Kingdom" inscribed on the side of Xiangyun Road has a more profound artistic conception. It is more appropriate to compare Mount Putuo to the Buddhist Kingdom of the Sea and Sky. Hou Jigao's legacy is really the final word. "Haitian Buddha Land" has since become the good name of Mount Putuo, spreading all over the world.
Hou Jigao also stoned the Avalokitesvara statue painted by the famous Tang Dynasty painters Yan Liben and Wu Daozi in Putuo Mountain at Puji Temple. He also wrote "A Journey to Putuo Luojia Mountain" and presided over the compilation of the book "Avalokitesvara" by Yan Liben and Wu Daozi. "Putuo Mountain Chronicles", known as "Hou Zhi" by later generations, made certain contributions to the development of Putuo Mountain. (Zhang Fengchi)
