Historical Evolution of nave Paintings in Dongzhuang

In the fifth year of Ming Dynasty (157 1), Dani, a native of Qinghe County, Hebei Province, moved to Dongzhuang, and her flower-and-bird painting of the sixth generation Dong (word Song Yun, about 1725- 1796) reached a certain level. On the basis of predecessors' achievements, to the eighth generation Dong Liyuan, his figure painting is the main part of his works. It is also the main part of nave's paintings in Dongzhuang.

During War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression and the Cultural Revolution, Dong Zhuang's painting suffered an unprecedented blow, and his painting activities were once interrupted.

It recovered in the 1980s. After 1990s, due to various reasons, Dongzhuang painting gradually lost its original social foundation, the market gradually shrank, and fewer and fewer people engaged in painting in Dongzhuang village.

In 1980s, the cultural departments of Chiping County and Dulangkou Town tried to rescue Dong Zhuang's nave painting.

During the period of 1982, more than 70 paintings by Dong Zhuang were exhibited at the work site of Liaocheng Rural Cultural Center, which was well received by the leaders attending the meeting.

1In the autumn of 983, Chiping County Cultural Center and Dulangkou Town Cultural Station held the first Dongzhuang painting creation class in Dongzhuang.

1984, students in Class Two created more than 10 paintings, five of which participated in Liaocheng National Day Art Exhibition.

From 65438 to 0984, "China Folk Art Exhibition" organized by China Artists Association selected two paintings of Dong Zhuang, which were exhibited in Hongkong and won favorable comments.
