Dear students and teachers:
Hello everyone! The four names I want to use are "Houde", "Erudition", "Dedicated" and "Lequn", which are also the themes of my speech today. 1. The word "Houde" comes from the "Book of Changes Kun Gua" "彖": "The earth is thick and carries all things, and the virtues are boundless." That is to say, the earth can carry all things because of its breadth and depth, so it can benefit all things with good conduct and tolerate everything. "Book of Changes·Kun Gua·Xiang" says: "The terrain is Kun, and a gentleman carries things with kindness." The school motto of Tsinghua University, "Continuous self-improvement, carrying kindness with things", originated from this. It can be seen that "thickness" requires us to use the earth as a model, be broad-minded, and tolerate all things with noble virtues.
The word "virtue" in "Houde" was written in ancient times as "up straight and down-minded (悳)". Straight heart is virtue, which means that "virtue" refers to an innocent and straightforward heart. Sincerity is called virtue, true love is called kinship. The purpose of the university is not only to teach scientific and cultural knowledge, but also to cultivate people's noble moral character. In college, students not only need to gain knowledge, but also strengthen self-cultivation, purify their souls, cultivate their sentiments, and become a person with noble moral character and a broad mind, and a person with a sound personality and harmonious development!
2. Erudite The term "erudite" comes from "Book of Rites·Confucianism": "Confucians are knowledgeable but not exhausted, and practice diligently without being tired." This means that scholars should learn without end and persevere. Its core requires us to acquire extensive knowledge through hard study and practice. "The Analects of Confucius·Zizhang" says, "Zixia said: Be erudite and determined, ask questions and think closely, and benevolence lies in it." The school motto of Fudan University, "Erudition and determination, ask questions and think closely," comes from this; " "Book of Rites: The Doctrine of the Mean" also says: "A sincere person is one who chooses the good and is stubborn: learn it well, inquire it carefully, think it carefully, discern it clearly, and practice it diligently." This is the origin of "discrimination and sincere practice". It can be seen that these are the basic requirements put forward by the ancients on how scholars should improve their studies and cultivate their personality. Among them, the emphasis is on putting erudition first.
3. Jingye Le (yào) Qun Please note that the reason why I pronounce "Lequn" as "Yaoqun" is because "Jingye Le (yào) Qun" is an ancient idiom with an ancient pronunciation. "Yao" refers to the description of the examination in every other year in the "Book of Rites·Xue Ji": "One year is based on Li Jingjing's determination; three years is based on dedication and music (yào) group; five years is based on extensive study and personal teacher; seven years is based on learning from one's master. "Looking at learning and making friends is called Xiaocheng." That is to say, in the third year, it is necessary to examine whether students can concentrate on learning and integrate into the group. We emphasize dedication and community, which means that our students are required to be able to concentrate on their studies and love their majors; to be able to unite their classmates and get along harmoniously, to be honest and tolerant, to benefit others, to love the collective, and to work together in the same boat.
Cheng Yi, a great scholar in the Song Dynasty, once said: "The so-called respect refers to respect; the so-called one refers to one when there is no appropriateness." That is to say, whenever you do one thing, you must concentrate on one thing. , to concentrate all your energy on this matter without any distractions. This is respect. Mr. Liang Qichao said: "So professionalism is the most necessary and most beneficial to life." In "Zhuangzi Dasheng", Confucius commented on an old man: "The will is not divided, but the spirit is concentrated"; "The Book of Rites: Doctrine of the Mean" said: "A gentleman acts in his position and does not want to be outside of it." These are all It’s about the methods and principles of dedication. Dedication includes various realms such as love for work, diligence, excellence, and entrepreneurship. It means loving one's job, being loyal to one's duties, studying hard, striving for excellence, dedicating oneself to innovation, and possessing the value pursuit and diligent style of contributing to social development.
Thank you everyone!
