The Peach Blossom Immortal refers to Tang Bohu, Tang Yin (Tang Bohu, March 6, 1470 - January 7, 1524), also named Bohu, also named Ziwei, named Liuru Jushi, etc., from South Zhili A native of Wu County, Suzhou Prefecture, he was a famous painter and writer in the Ming Dynasty. He was one of the "Four Schools of Wu Family" and one of the "Four Talents of Wuzhong". He is a master of both poetry and painting. His figure paintings are bright and elegant in color and graceful in body. He is also a freehand figure painter with concise, comprehensive and interesting strokes. His flower and bird paintings are good at freehand ink painting, free and elegant. The calligraphy is unique and handsome, and is modeled after Zhao Mengfu.
Tang Yin's ancestor was Tang Hui, the former general of Lianglingjiang and the prefect of Jinchang County, so Tang Yin often inscribed his paintings and calligraphy with the signature "Jinchang Tang Yin". During the Sui and Tang Dynasties, his ancestor Tang Jian followed Li Yuan in raising an army and was awarded the title of "Gong of the State of Ju", so Tang Yin also called himself "Tang Sheng of the State of Lu". In the Ming Dynasty, his ancestor Tang Tai served as the chief chariot driver of the Ministry of War and died in the battle of Tumubao. Most of Tang Tai's descendants were scattered among Baixia and Qiaoli in Wuxian County, Suzhou. Tang Yin was also born in this area, and his father Tang Guangde ran a tavern.
Due to their age, not many of Tang Yin's works have survived. In the past, they were mostly scattered among the people. After liberation, major museums paid more attention to collecting them, but many of them went overseas. Since the late 1980s, the world's two major auction houses have begun selling his works. Because he has a high reputation in people's minds, many people are willing to spend a lot of money to collect his works.
