Appreciation of Yueyang Tower Couplets

Yueyang Tower near Xiongshi Dongting Lake is one of the three famous buildings in the south of China. Natural landscape and human landscape are world-renowned. Throughout the ages, celebrities and literati left poems and couplets here, and the author copied some of them for readers.

"Dongting is the world's water and Yueyang is the world's building", which is a couplet written on the gate of Yueyang Tower Scenic Area. It is the first two sentences of Wei Yunzhen's poem Yueyang Tower in Ming Dynasty. It is used as a door to welcome guests and has a wonderful voice. This couplet is magnificent, which highly summarizes the characteristics of Yueyang Tower scenic spot, which is one water and one world on the first floor. There is also a couplet on the gate: "Whoever cares about the immediate happiness is the best in the world". This couplet comes from a poem written by Yang Yiqing in the Ming Dynasty, which shows that the author's ideal ambition is to follow Fan Zhongyan's example of worrying about the world, which can be described as touching the scene and blending the scene.

There is a long couplet on the first floor of the main building of Yueyang Tower, which was made by Dou during the Tongzhi period of the Qing Dynasty: "What's so strange about the first floor?" Du Shaoling's five-character swan song, Fan's two words care about love, Teng's everything is in full swing, and Lv Chunyang is drunk after three customs. Poetry? Ruye? Official? Ye Xian? Where were those lost times before me? , make me cry! Gentlemen, try it. Xiaoxiang in the south pole of Dongting Lake, Wuxia in the north of the Yangtze River, refreshing in Baling Mountain, and precipice in the east of Yuezhou City. People who hoard, move, stand upright and stifle have real meaning. Who can read it? "This couplet has eleven short sentences and fifty words, but it is very skillful, unique and wonderful, so it has cultural connotation and historical background, excellent literary talent and never tires of reading. The first part lists the famous sentences of "worry" and "joy" in (Du Fu's) poem "Climbing Yueyang Tower", Fan Zhongyan's "Yueyang Tower", Teng's political achievements, and the myths and legends of Lv Chunyang's (Lv Dongbin's) three drunkenness, and then gives a sentence "Before me, where were those lost years? Behind me, where are the future generations? I think of heaven and earth, there is no limit, there is no end, I am alone, and my tears fall down. In the second part, I cited Baling's victory with a model essay, and then I couldn't help asking myself, "There is real significance in this. Who can understand? " This sentence makes readers think deeply. What is the "true meaning"? Patriotism, of course! In the Qing Dynasty, Chen Dagang, the magistrate of Baling County, Jiaqing County, wrote a couplet entitled "All the lakes and mountains around are in sight, and every family is worried and happy", which was concise and expressed parents' concern for the sufferings of the people.

On the second floor of the main building, a couplet written by Zheng Jiaguan, an academician in the late Qing Dynasty, seems to be negative, but in fact it is sad and angry: "The lake view is still the same, who is drunk, cares about chaos and only drinks; The past is the past! When I was worried, I collapsed and went upstairs. " According to the data, this couplet was written in 1933, when the Japanese invaders invaded China on a large scale, the country was in turmoil, the government was corrupt and incompetent, and the people lived in poverty. Facing the Dongting Lake in front of us, the author thinks that the mountains and rivers of the motherland have been ravaged by the Japanese invaders, and he is desperate to live in troubled times, just like Lv Dongbin who has been drunk for a long time. But the reality is inescapable. I hope that a wise man like Fan Zhongyan can reorganize the mountains and rivers and save the peril, but the old man (Fan Zhongyan) is gone forever. When I look up at this building, I feel broken and sad. His patriotism, grief and indignation are vividly on the paper. 1944 When the Japanese invaded Changsha, the author refused to be a traitor and called him a thief and died. This shows that the author is indeed a patriot with consistent words and deeds and national integrity, and his character and style of writing are commendable.

On the third floor of the main building, there is a couplet written by Li Bai, a great poet in the Tang Dynasty: "Water and sky are one color, and the wind and moon are boundless". Just eight words sum up the myriad weather of Dongting Lake. Only from this couplet can we get a glimpse of the poet's bold style. On the third floor, there is a poem written by Huang Dao in Qing Dynasty, "Du Ji is as high as the ages, and there are mountains and lakes in this building". The beauty of this connection lies in the integration of the natural scenery of Dongting Lake and Yueyang Tower with the human landscape of Du Fu's poem "Climbing Yueyang Tower" and Fan Wen's "Yueyang Tower", which is natural and fluent and easy to recite. But I think it will be more neat if the word "Gao" is replaced by the word "Chuan". Maybe the author has other ideas.

On the archway of Yueyang Tower, there is a couplet written by Zhang Zhao, the minister of Qianlong period in Qing Dynasty: "A thousand miles of Xiaoxiang, Chung Shan Man in Antarctica, and Wuxia in the north". Although this couplet only adds three words after the two sentences of the model essay, it has reached a superb level.

Sanzui Pavilion (taken from the myth and legend of Lv Dongbin Sanzui Yueyang Tower) has a couplet written by Fang Qing Simon: "The moon and the breeze are vivid; Poetry and wine, no one, no one "is so detached! So carefree! The feeling of reading has a fairy spirit floating between the lines. The couplet on Huaifu Pavilion was written by Wu, a contemporary calligrapher: "The boat is a Dongting, and there are tears left;" The soul returns to Luoshui, and there is no poem in the world. " This couplet is hung in the pavilion, which is more suitable for tourists to remember the poet and think about the ancient feelings.

As can be seen from most couplets in Yueyang Tower, they are all inspired by Fan Wen and Du Fu's poems, so it can be seen that Fan Wen and Du Fu's poems are really eternal songs, which is not only the pride of Fan Wen and Du Fu, but also the pride of our Chinese nation!
